Hellhogs

A giant, vicious and ill tempered boar with serrated tusks the size of shortswords, almost as high as a human and weighting about half a ton.
They are omnivorous, and they usually feed on plants, roots, roaches, worms, snails, and carcasses. They live in humid environments where food is abundant. Their boar ancestors living in places where food is scarce couldn't evolve into this monstrous size.
Normally, they won't hunt for food. However, they are extremely ill tempered, and will interpret any suspicious or quick movement as a threat.
In spite of their stocky appearance, they can run at surprisingly fast speeds, and their charge is almost unstoppable. Once their target is on the ground, they will gore it relentlessly until it stops moving. Furthermore, they are extremely resilient to damage due to their thick skins and thick skulls.
Both males and females live alone, and are very territorial, getting together only for mating purposes. Rut is only once a year and males develop body enhancement during that time to endure extremely violent fights with other males. They emmit a very strong odor, their skin doubles in thickness during and their muscular mass increases by at least 20%. Killing one of these specimens is extremely dangerous but the leather is perfect for body armor, and meat yield is higher.
Their meat is very prized, but obtaining it is a very risky endeavor, unless attacks are made from a place that the hellhog cannot reach. In spite of this, hunters need a great amount of javelins and arrows to take one down. There are many cases in which a hellhog has broken the trunk or uprooted a tree where a hunter was placed.
If you are surprised by one of these alone in the open, your odds are extremely low.
They are a favourite prey for Wocog packs, that rely on surprise and teamwork to bring them down. Besides, they prefer to attack the old, the young and the sickly.
