Capture Attention

By doing whatever you do best in front of a crowd, you can capture the attention of bystanders in a 6 meter radius.
If you are a Performer, perhaps you'll be singing a song, playing an instrument, dancing, or proclaiming poetry.
If you are a Priest , you will be preaching, denouncing the infidels, or confessing your sins.
People may love you or hate you, but have a hard time ignoring you.
This is only possible if no physical violence is going on in the vicinity, and if you're standing in a public place, or a private place where you are allowed entrance.

To do this, you must roll the Performance Skill, along with the Attribute associated with the craft of your choice.
  • Success: People that are not trying to actively resist your charms will focus their attention on you while you remain performing, and will become Distracted. People trying to actively remain focused in something else, must roll Will & Control, and must beat your Performance roll as an Opposed or Contended Roll. If they fail, they become Distracted.
  • Raises: Each raise means you attract 3 people from outside the radius, or 2 people really love you.
  • Failure: People keep on doing their stuff, ignoring you.
  • Ciritical Failure: You manage to capture the attention of your audience, but in the worst way possible. They hate your performance and start insulting you, throwing stuff at you, and if you don't stop, they will ultimately they try to kick you out of the establishment...
Even though people in the Afterfall doesn't have sophisticated tastes, beware.
In some cases the GM can rule out that people reacts poorly to the performer, almost immediately, provoking the same result as a Critical Failure, without even a roll. This will usually be true in contexts where religious or political confrontation or intolerance are important factors to consider. In these cases, people may even want to kill you.

Example of situations where things could go immediatly wrong:
  • Performing an obscene sex show in front of a an audience of deep beliefs in morals exalting chastity.
  • A stand up comedy routine based in portraying Razor, the Bloodletter, as an insecure coward, in front of his fanatic death squads.
  • Preaching openly about Bilobius, the peaceful god of love, in front of the staunch followers of Moghedal, the bloodthirsty god of death and the abyss.
Note:
The 6 m radius rule moght bnot be reasonable for some types of act, such as football player, executioner, torturer, jockey in horse races, etc. The GM must adapt this rule to be reasonable to the relevant act. In the case of a sportsman, you might not be able to perform inside a bar, and you need to coordinate with more players to arrange a match, so in this sense, things will be more complicated. However, when a match is arranged, you could affect a far bigger area: All the people around the field who decided to go watch the match, and provided the field is open, every passerby could eventually decide to stop and watch.
