The Pact Physical / Metaphysical Law in Prijeba | World Anvil

The Pact

I saw it with my own eyes - the Elf set hands to a dying man, and there was a light that lasted for an hour... He got up a new man. Oh, he said his name right. But his eyes...

I have heard many rumors of the Pact. Vicious rumors, kind-hearted rumors, and everything in between. The truth is... the only people who can truly explain the Pact won't. The Elves are the keepers of the secret - and they will simply say that their Goddess grants the Pact to those deemed worthy.   But to my eyes? The Pact is granted too randomly. For the life of me, I have yet to discern what makes them believe that someone is 'worthy' of the Pact.   Maybe they're right. Maybe the Lady Elenwen does whisper in their ears some sort of secret spell to Pact a Kin...   What I do know is that when an Elf is driven to commit a Pact, there is no stopping them. I have seen them Pact a dying man - and something in that spell of theirs heals the wounds and keeps the man alive. I have seen them Pact a newborn infant - with the parents never knowing what their child would have been like without that magic.   Elves do not always ask before they Pact someone. But the Pacted? They are always more at home with the Elves than any other Kin I have met.

Manifestation

An Elf will set hands to the face and chest of the one they intend to Pact.  The process takes an hour at least, and in the process, the Elf seems to change the one they are Pacting.  Changes are immediately noticeable, though they will continue for some time after the Pact has been committed.   It is plain as day to know which Kin have been Pacted - there is a strange uniformity to them even if they seem wildly different at a glance.  There is an air that is unmistakable.
