Mana Tree Species in Prijeba | World Anvil

Mana Tree

Born of Magic, and Giving Magic.

Mana Trees are a source of magic within Lenayn, and they are born of great magic.  No one has ever been able to force a Mana Tree to come into existence, not intentionally, but they are known to appear during unintended bouts of magic.    As such, Sprites are almost infamous for creating Mana Trees during their births - and some are even known for becoming attached to the Mana Tree their birth created.   Most Mana Trees have flowers of various shades of pink, though some have suggested that Mana Trees might be able to bear other colors.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Mana Trees are not the tallest trees in the world.  They generally only reach 30 feet or so, but they do tend to branch out widely.

Genetics and Reproduction

The trees only sprout a seed every three years, and it must be tended properly to grow without the spontaneous rush of magic that gave birth to most of the Mana Trees in the world.  The Elves claim that this is proof that Elenwen has plans for all life, as Mana Trees can only successfully reproduce with the assistance of Kin or Elf.

Growth Rate & Stages

Mana Trees grow very quickly. A sapling can grow into a full-fledged tree within a mere week if it was tended by Elf or Kin.  The Spontaneous Mana Trees grow within hours.

Ecology and Habitats

Anywhere that uncontrolled magic is let loose can find itself growing a Mana Tree.  Some have been found even in the southern snows.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Mana Tree seems to create a symbiotic relationship with the environment around itself.  While it will accept water and sunlight, magic itself seems to ensure the Tree can survive wherever it has sprouted.

Biological Cycle

To this day, a tree has never been found to have died of age.  It has always died due to being cut, transplanted incorrectly... or drained.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Mana Tree flowers can be used to create potions which heal wounds, cure disease, and even slow poisons. Some herbalists claim that if they can continue studying the Mana Tree, they may even be able to unlock the secret of the Tree's seeming agelessness.
Conservation Status
The Elves are particularly defensive of these trees, though they will assist in moving them if it is possible. That being said - it is not always possible as some have discovered in the village of Lara. Sometimes the Mana Trees will be moved, only for multiple to sprout in the place they had just been moved from the day before. Fortunately, this is not true of every Mana Tree, but one never knows if the tree they are attempting to move now will be stubborn.
