The War of the South
INTRODUCTION
The War of the South took place over the course of fourty-two years. Most notably, it was the first major war between the lesser mortal races of Abeon- the earliest recorded fight between non-titan entities. The world was shocked and would not recover from this war for thousands of years. The War of the South set the stage for the bloody conflicts of the Third Period.
BUILD
After Overlord Jerald Sarcho's death in 1047 2p, his eldest son Reginald took his throne. Reginald I wanted to ensure his father's legacy by promoting peace, and thus set to work creating alliances all across middleton. However, Jerald I had created a great number of enemies during his conquests. Reginald encounter great hostility, especiallcy from the Arvenon powerhouse States of Tsonlar. The King at the time was Manuel IV, who carried an extra dose of bitterness and hatred for the Archian nation. With tensions building, and Reginald already trying to ensure peace, Manuel gathered a group of nations together to invade the north. Reginald got wind of this plot, and with his allies, took to the offensive and launched a surprise invasion of Orsolon, one of Manuel's allies. Historians are unsure of whether Manuel really planned to invade, or if Reginald simply took matters into his own hands.
CONFLICT
In Jylon of 1058 2p, Overlord Reginald I led an army of the collective nations Archia, Wreinn, Vocra, Indinell, and Jolster. Some reports say the army numbered near one hundred-thousand, but such numbers are not consistent with the population at the time. The massive army descended into Orsolon for the first invasion. Initial success heralded a quick victory, but Manuel's soldiers, along with reinforcements from Porsonal and Asmar, took defensive positions in Prishmap to prepare for the oncoming army. The following battle leveled the entire hillside. Some believe alchemists were used by Tsonlar. Reginald's forces were driven back, and Manuel countered quickly. The Tsondalian alliance was quickly joined by forces from the Arvenon settlement of Olchar further south, and the renewed army drove the Archian back to the border. By the year 1071, the war had reached a stalemate. Reginald wanted to sue for peace, fearing that Manuel IV would try to take his lands as he had from his father; but in 1073 the world was shocked when Manuel IV succumbed to an unknown illness. The alliance he created shattered, each king from the nations trying to take up the mantel of leader. Reginald once again attacked- this time turning his sights to Porsonal, who had inflicted the most damage during the first invasion. Porsonal was overrun by the combined forces of Archia and Vocra, and they sued for peace. Manuel V then arose to the Tsondalian throne. This king was hotheaded and quick to draw his sword. Within a set of his corination, Manuel V personally led an army of ten thousand Arvenon straight into the teeth of the Archia army in Saelmere. The following battle resulted in thousands of dead, but a resounding Tsondalian Victory. The war last another twenty years, but consisted only of Tsondalian and Porsonal victories. Reginald finally sued for peace in 1104, after Manuel had successfully driven him completely out of Porsonal.
OUTCOME
Porsonal was severely weakened, but received aid from her allies. Archia struggled to recover. Many called Reginald's leadership into question, and distrust for the Sarcho line began. Reginald's weakness in battle would lead to a weak empire that his sons and grandson would fight each other for. Orsolon, although helped by Tsonlar, garnered hatred for the Arvenon state because Manuel's troops looted the land during the retaking of the first invasion. This hatred would burst in 1271 with the outbreak of The First Magic War of Abeon
