The Battlewrath Conquest

INTRODUCTION

In the early 3rd Period, the Dwarven states began delving deep into the Battlewrath Peaks, finding all sorts of magic and strong metals and gems. They began expertly crafting these into items with the enslaved labor of their mortal enemies - skullers. The entire process- from mining to crafting- was outcried by the the city states of central Min'usu'une, namely the Valyrian settlement of Borish'ell. The Lady Eydul, leader of Borish'ell, enscripted thirteen thousand men and valkyrie from the surrounding nations to drive the dwarves from the mountains once and for all. The mission was labeled ridiculous from the start by the leaders of Tsonlar and the Archian Kingdom, but no one heeded the warnings of such a pointless mission. The repercussions of this campaign were drastic, as it resulted in the downfall of Valkyrie nations across the Jade Expanse, as well as the end of the Golden Age of The Phagees.

DESTINED FOR FAILURE

The cold months of Silvercrest descended upon Eteanal in 1578 3p, and this is when Lady Eydul decided to lead her new allied force to the foothills of the dwarven nations and invade the entire Battlewrath Empire. Even though condemned and harshly warned by their allies, the influential Phagees Tribe joined the campaign under the banner of Baron Jorlpin Krisll, the ancestor of the great Bjorn Krisoc. Jorlpin wished to finish his grandfathers goal of kicking all dwarves from the south, and saw Eydul's pointless vendetta as the perfect opportunity to do so. However, a portion of the army abstained from joining, which included all of his best warriors and his right hand general, Lidicia Silkfjord, who later became the next Baroness of The Phagees and single handedly saved the tribe from annihilation from the East. This was the first red flag that the mission was destined for disaster.

INITIAL SUCCESS

The first few battles were promising, Eydul and her force destroying several towns and submitting two dwarven city nations under her rule. However the momentum quickly slammed to a halt as a blizzard swept over the peaks.

Instead of immediately calling off the invasion of Battlewrath, Lady Eydul insisted that her weary troops trek through the freezing slosh to reach the next dwarven settlement- Western Meleuhur- where much of the gem and metal trading occurred in the mountains. One of her commanders, Lorian Lightfoot, insisted they wait for reinforcements from Jorlpin, but impatient to knab the resources at Meleuhur, Eydul pushed her forces up the mountainside. A third died to illness and the mountainside perils within twelve days, another two thousand were slain in combat with Skullers, dwarves, and snow creatures. The momentum was gone, and morale was low. At this point, Eydul made a disastrous decision. Where most would have called off the assualt, Eydul deceided to head south instead of further east, hoping to meet her allies at the foothills on the southern border of Battlewrath. However, they ran straight into a lightning storm of hail and sleet, and Eydul lost another three thousand men and women. With little more than four thousand soldiers remaining, reality began to sink in.

THE FINAL DISASTROUS DECISION

Eydul panicked and supposed the mission would fare better if they went under the mountains. On a fateful day in Freezimir 1579, the last of the troops of Borish'ell entered a caveway gate into the underbelly of Battlewrath, never to see the light of day again. Once under the mountain, Eydul managed to lead them into the Phagees, who had managed to get lost in the underground labyrinth. When everyone had gathered together, they were attacked by hundreds of skullers. They were promptly massacred, including the leaders from Borishell and the Phagees.
