Ancestries

All common ancestries are permitted in campaigns.  Uncommon ancestries will very often be allowed, but may require more details in the backstory to explain their involvement and may be limited by the location or other setting elements.  Rare ancestries will only be allowed under specific circumstances, but you are welcome to ask.   In addition to the official Pathfinder Ancestriesthere are also two homebrew ancestries available: Dragonborn and Canim   The repeated resetting of the progress of all civilizations has resulted in ancestries becoming mixed nearly throughout the world. While all ancestries have their own cultural norms and stereotypes. Ancestries fall into a few categories that will determine how you can expect to be received by all but the educated and/or worldly.   Common Races: Humans, Halflings, Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes These peoples are common enough throughout the world that you will not struggle to find others of your ancestry in the average town. There are some stereotypes about these peoples, but only the most closed minded of people will have any prejudice against you, and the culture of your homeland will most likely have a stronger influence on your personality than your ancestral culture.   Scalykind: Dragonborn, Lizardfolk, Kobolds, Grippli While these peoples are common, they have significant biological differences that generally pull them to congregate with other scalykind. To others, they may seem difficult to read due to different facial expressions, and they have different health and biological needs. Unless people are used to dealing with scalykind, they will likely view you hesitantly and may see you as being emotionless or cold. You will be able to find others like you in large cities or in certain towns where your people have congregated.   Beastkind: Catfolk, Canim, Kitsune, Gnolls, Ratfolk, Tengu, Strix Outside of your homelands, you are anything from an uncommon sight to an extreme rarity. People may view you with curiosity, awe, fear or adoration, depending on your size and whether you come off as scary or cute. You'll be able to find others like you in large cities, and occasionally in smaller towns outside of your homeland.   Others: Hobgoblins, Fetchlings, Leshy, Orcs, Anadi, etc. (all others) Outside of your homelands, you are so rare as to be unknown. Unless you have a way to disguise yourself as a more common ancestry, you will draw attention and you will be judged very differently from others. People may see you as a monster, a spirit, or some kind of extreme variation on another ancestry. Even in a large city, there will be few people like you away from your homeland.
