Ar’vu Eitre: The Lost City of Heretics

Before the written word, when humanity was beginning to master their domain, a gleaming city arose from a desolate wasteland. A city of riches and wonders beyond comprehension. A city of sages and craftsmen, common men and would be kings. A city of Magic.

Government

A magocrocy with a tin fist. While at one point the city was run with dictatorial control, the various guilds became powerful enough to check the might of the Emperor Arcane. It also helped that the Emperor’s army was paid for by the Guild of the Bronze Blade.

Defences

  • The Seven Sacred Titans: Seven massive golems each carved from a single piece of a “Sacred Stone” (Obsidian, Moonstone, Jade, Sandstone, Bloodstone, Quartz, Marble.) Two guard the city’s only entrance while the other five each oversee a district.
  • The Scorching Sea: Once a “boiling” lake heated by volcanic waters. Over the millennia since the fall of Ar’vu Eitre the surrounding landscape became a desert.

Districts

  • The Gate to Knowledge- The city gate and first district. Mostly full of housing and inns for those with less resources and visitors seeking to bring back some of the magic to their people. The only section of the city to remain on Earth. It is the anchor point of reality.
  • The Bazaar of Brazen Delights- Becomes hell.
  • The High Place- Becomes the realm of myth and the heavens.
  • The Dreaming Depths- Becomes Fairy.
  • The Paradise of Perdition- Becomes the realm of the dead. Where the Gate Beyond was housed.

History

The Emperor Arcane rules city as a God King and begins to build the Gate Beyond. The Guilds grow jealous of his power and fear what lies Beyond. So they conspire against him and mummify him. They weaken the wards and the unfinished Gate Beyond begins to rip the city from reality- district by district. Meanwhile the age of Bronze begins and those out side the City of Heretics seek to rid the world of its malefic influence.
