Zaor Duskbrook Character in Potestatem | World Anvil

Zaor Duskbrook ((ZAH-OAR, DUH-SK-BRU-OOK))

Rooted Zoar Spark Duskbrook (a.k.a. Zoar the Fire)

Zaor Duskbrook wears the same dirt-soaked clothes everywhere. He beams wide and lives out of a small side satchel and a single empty health potion. His figure is tall, his clothes dark, and his body composed. A black long cloak covered bound fists and loose leggings. Barefoot and ropes belts holding his shirt together he wanders on the side of dirt paths taking notes in a large wooden book of maps. He smiles and fills the air with noise but in the end, it seems he said nothing at all.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

His body is wiry and taunt with a slight mass to his muscles this is mostly limber rather than hardy. Health seems to pervade his youthful elven body with centuries left in its cells.

Identifying Characteristics

His neck has a small birthmark darker than the skin around it. His face is rougher than most elves and didn't seem to carry the usual elven elegance in his race. Scars on his knees long or circular show a hardy childhood in the trees of those cold southern woods.

Apparel & Accessories

Zaor lives a squalid life. Comfortable with the outdoor, only poor weather will bring him inside from a nice moss patch. His clothes are washed regularly and sewn often.

Specialized Equipment

Bound in linen cloth, his hands and feet are ready for bruising constantly.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Rhedsy Woods is the name of Zaors home.

Gender Identity

The elves of the Rhedsy woods have what human culture might consider 'a narrow band' in terms of differences between male and female elves. All appear slight and elegant. Wood elves all wearing the same loose trousers and nondefining tops.

Sexuality

Zaor like many elves has a diminutive sexual desire. He has yet to have the headspace or relationships to explore the opposite gender. Overall his self-image in this area is immature and left mostly unexplored, resulting in many uncomfortable and embarrassing situations. The elf remains distantly curious and slightly fearful about the world of intimacy and romance.

Education

Zaor was educated in a monastery by his family for forty years in the ways of martial combat and care for the natural world. He learned greatly of common sense, physical control, but little of wordplay and logic. He understands nature and what it holds but none of the ways people must communicate. The monastery was lacking in population and conversation. Thus resulting in an extremely physical child. Zaor found sparring, exploration, and surface-level conversation his only method of speaking.

Employment

As an infant and child, Zaor had many chores in the Monastery cleaning, farming, and mapping the changing woods. He took up the job of mapping the woods and political borders of the Rhedsy Wood Elves and Hazfen Empire that lay near his home.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Zaor excelled in acrobatics and martial arts, learning the basics better than his counterparts over the course of three decades. He has found success in mapping out small areas for local leaders around the world as well.

Mental Trauma

Zaortravels are fueled on the surface by a curiosity for life beyond that of the slow elven way. Shame and anger at himself and his family roil beneath the surface.
In his fortieth year, a teenager in elf years, the Hazfen Empire began to make aggressive stabs into the woods for lumber and soldiers.
Zaor's accomplishments as a martial artist filled his head and he spoke out of turn amid the monastery. In an escalating debate, he ended up beating a fellow monk to the point of permanent damage.
The monastery, like most, already poor, could not afford a cleric to come all the way to them to heal the student's shattered body. Zaor instead of apologizing antagonized the nearby Ascended Arrow Infantry resulting in the sacking of his monastery.
Home now desecrated, family and friends alive but hating his very silhouette, he ran.
Now he explores the world and hones his martial arts. He seeks to find fairness in the world that did not bend to his young will. For fifty years he has traveled and grown more alone and twisted in his mind. Now a vigilante and criminal he lets his anger control his fist and speaks of nothing of true importance. Left to spiral alone into self hatred and doubt, a chance to redeem itself could not come any sooner.

Morality & Philosophy

Zaor lives to bring fairness where many bend it to themself. Using his cartographer skills he gets into Nobel, merchant, and powerful houses to steal, kill, and take from those he sees has wronged those under them. There are no second chances, for where was his.

Taboos

Zaor brings a deep respect for the natural order, nature, and the world from his childhood days. Wanton destruction of the environment and disrespect for life provokes outbursts from Zaor.
Speaking of personal issues, the past and one's own life are seen as extremely selfish to Zaor.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Zaor seeks to find fairness in the world. Deeply he seeks redemption for his impulsive actions that have left him alone and on the road.

Likes & Dislikes

Zaor appreciates the dwarven cuisine rather than his people's thin and hunter-gatherer-based meals.

Vices & Personality flaws

Zaor explodes to each insult he hears. He seems to find even the smallest cuts to open a deep wound.

Personality Quirks

Zaor twitches in his sleep extremely often.

Hygiene

His hygiene spikes in towns and drops off in nature. His outward appearance is all that matters rather than actual hygenie.
