Taking of the Cadence
Cadence's lead the Hazfen Empire. During the Taking of the Cadence a new Cadence is chosen by the Synod of Wisdom. This process takes nearly a half temple cycle and involves great quantities of discussion, prayer, and Display of the Dunes.
History
Each Cadence rules for thirty years, in this time they change the empire's goals and makeup. Throughout time the greatest of The Magnified have led as Cadence. It is said to be the greatest of The Magnified, and vise versa. The process has seen wars put on pause, great battles waged, and borders closed, all to make prepared the Synod of Wisdom for selecting the next cadence. Sometimes it is obvious and within a few short months, the celebrations begin. Other times great warriors' and scholars' achievements are compared and contrasted for three or more months.
Execution
After thirty years pass the current cadence is demoted to a member of the Synod of Wisdom. There they dispense wisdom on what they learned in their time as Cadence. Depending on the leader this can look like a great speech or a written letter read aloud by a Slastratum. Now limited to dawn to the dusk event, this is done quickly. After the Synod disperse across the Hazfen for prayer and Display of the Dunes. In an unknown act, the Synod return to each other on average within a week to discuss who they think should lead the empire. After this occurs the Synod disperses to speak with their respective advisors who are a part of the Thousand Dunes. Discussion and dispersing repeat until a Cadence is voted by the council. The vote is always unanimous.
