Session 10

General Summary

3rd through 9th of Planting, year 595

The party has to wait three days for information from the Temple archivists, until finally, priestess Torrga Stoutale brings to them a hand-copied summary of everything she could come up with in the old stories and tales regarding the things the party has told her:

In the Great Battle of the Elders, before the Celestial abandoned this land, the Old Ones were eventually banished from this realm, locked away by the Sacrifice of Infernal and Fey, a mutual pact that spawned the Tielflinnling -- those born of the shared blood as a reminder and symbol of that pact and Sacrifice. The Celestial entrusted the protection of the Gloghcrhim, in the old tongue, to ancient mortal races who would have the greatest need to keep them safe. The Dwarves were to protect the one deep in their home. And from the Dwarves, the great Dragon God Bahamut created his mortal children, borne of his image. It is the Dragon’s Bravery and Shame which guard another Gloghcrhim. The elven races formed the Caomhnóir, a brotherhood of guardians which oversaw the other two Gloghcrhim, and were tasked with cleaning the blood of the Sacrifice so it would never be used to open the seals. The Celestials hid the fifth Gloghcrhim, which could never be seen so long as the other four remain sealed.

Meanwhile, they discover through Lorentz that Hasturton has fallen to a horde of creatures. This was new development to the party due to the stoppage of travel up the Silver River back and forth from Settleton and the party's sequestering in the dwarven city. Arcane attempts to communicate with Master Arcanist Varius (who they last saw attempting to seal the Portal) resulted in unsettling reply. Attempts to get confirmation of orders from Captain Shava resulted in confirmation of desire to return. Spending 10 gold and a day of service to request a divination through the dwarven priests asking "To have the best chance of keeping sealed the gate most in danger, should we head towards the Abyss, the Dragon's Mouth or Portville?" resulted with the following cryptic message:

The dragon is now being sought, the ice remains frozen, the Guard returns to its original charge.

They informed Shava of their plan to go to Djerad Delemiriv and got in reply:

Locate and inform local Guard your whereabouts as you travel. Vital you kill Anselem no matter what happens.

Malex remembers that name as having something to do with the Guard a long time ago perhaps. Wally's checking around town while they party equipped themselves for travel came up with someone having heard the name Anselem with a Brovar with a tiefling at the Tindulnnir (Clerk for Non-Dwarven Affairs).
A final meeting with Lorentz and the surly Ella revealed Lorentz to be disappointed they're not returning to Portville, but he wished them well.
With mule, cold weather clothing, and a full stock in supplies, and wich each carrying a gift of finely crafted dwarven weaponry, the party left city. The following day, they came upon a goblin standing atop of a tower by a creek. While trying to sneak around, Toby uncovered more goblin in hiding which sparked immediate battle. Shockingly, midbattle, two of the goblins shape-shifted into large wolfen creatures that contributed to killing goblins. Caring little for the party, the creatures grabbed fallen goblin and vanished.
Toby and Walrick went to find where their main camp was while Irina and Malex investigated the source of a mysterious crossbow bolt that hit Irina during the battle. Another near deadly strike, and they started tracking a lone figure into the night.
The next morning, following what they think is the assailant again, the party comes upon a lonely cabin on a hill, peopled by a trio, Fergus, Kari, and Gil, who live alone and say they haven't seen anyone come through in several days. The hospitible trio offer to feed the party and trade information.
