Jeremiah Fortia
Jeremiah Fortia of the Fortia Diocese of Lathander
Jeremiah Fortia, High Elf Cleric
Jeremiah is the youngest of four children from a privileged, high societal home. As such, he was spoiled by the riches of his family. His family didn’t acknowledge his presence much of the time, save for his older sister. He received the care he needed to live and a surplus of that to keep him busy. Jeremiah’s eldest sister was the only one that took time away from their duties to spend time with him.
As he grew older, the only attention he began to receive from his parents were to compare his successes to his siblings and how he was incredibly behind in his clerical studies and diplomatic duties. He was seen as a failure and a spoiled brat. Needless to say, he was not happy with the constant belittling nature of his family. Jeremiah’s pride was much too big to crumble so easily, and he pushed forth with his studies, if only to prove a point. Still, he was cast aside; passively ridiculed in social events or not spoken of at all.
As Jeremiah grew to adulthood and beyond, his family decided to take matters into their own hands and arrange a wedding for him. Jeremiah was to wed a young woman of lesser nobility, with which he would take charge and leave his home for. Of course, he was against this. The elven noble was not only courting someone else at the time; it was with a family his parents despised entirely. And, “to put the delectable icing on the saccharine cake” as he would say, Jeremiah was courting the opposing family’s son in secret – not their highly sought after daughter.
He was not only doing this to spite his family. Jeremiah was actually happy with what he had and hoped to one day make something out of it. However, high society never comes without a price.
Scandal, greed, betrayal.
Thanks to some servants who couldn’t keep their mouths shut, the family at once learned of the boy’s affair and quickly eradicated it, shutting Jeremiah out and leaving them without goodbyes. Not only was the son disowned and cast out, Jeremiah was also sent out immediately to be wed to the young woman and left him there.
This was the last straw for him. Jeremiah finally decided to make a plan for himself.
So as not to draw too much suspicion, he went on with the ceremony. He became officially wed to this girl for a few months. He didn’t cause unrest, he didn’t protest, and he didn’t harm his wife. He just existed and did the minimal amount of dutiful work to pass as a disciplined, diplomatic nobleman. Half a year had passed before he felt the ever watchful eyes were off of him and he made his move.
Jeremiah learned of a man named Praetor and researched what he could about him during his time in wedlock. He was an intriguingly mysterious fellow, and he offered something that Jeremiah wanted desperately; a place away from this godsforsaken land and away from these unforgiving people. Leaving naught behind but a note stating “Goodbye. Find yourself true happiness.” and sweet scented flower on the pillow for his timid wife, he planned his leave. She was not at fault for what happened to him, but he was not going to stay there for the rest of his life.
With nothing but the clothes on his back and his closest belongings tucked away, Jeremiah finally left, claiming he was off to visit his family who were taking a business trip to Waterdeep. From there, he finally got what he was looking for from the mysterious Praetor of Waterdeep.
