The Everwar
A ceaseless conflict...
100 years ago, the Spellplague ended for most of Faerun. The church of Tempus, the Neutral God of War, split into two sects: The Soldiers of the Everwar and the Soldiers of the Present.Tempus
Tempus is the True Neutral God of War. His symbol is a flaming sword on a red background. His clergy are often warriors rather than healers. He does not, however, condone mindless violence. He encourages the use of violence to solve disputes, and hates cowardice more than anything else.Tempus has three central tenets -
1) Be fearless
2) Never turn away from a fight
3) Obey the rules of war.
"The faithful of Tempus are charged to arm all for whom battle is needful, even foes. They should retreat from hopeless fights, but never avoid battle, and slay one foe decisively and bring battle to a halt rather than hacking down many over time and dragging on hostilities."

The Soldiers of the Everwar
This sect of followers of Tempus believe that the Spellplague was only brought to an end because of the approval of the gods. Thus, it is their duty to ensure the will of the gods is supported, in order to prevent the Spellplague from falling anew on the realms. This sect of Tempus followers actively seek out war at all cost. They operate as a sort of massive theological mercenary army. It doesn't matter whether the war is just; they seek out and in many cases instigate violent conflicts. They are the minority of the followers of Tempus, but they are well-known.
The Soldiers of the Everwar bring their families to the warzones. It is not uncommon for multiple generations of a family -- short as they may be -- to only experience the Everwar, never experiencing "normal" society. The religous fanaticism is fueled by the euphoric rush of physical combat and the divine approval of Tempus as evidenced by the power of his paladins and clerics.
Soldiers of the Present
This more mainstream sect of the followers of Tempus are less fanatic. They often are mercenaries, but they don't think the world must constantly be at war to please their god.Canon Note:
This is a conflict that is not in official D&D/Forgotten Realms canon.
