Road Into Lient'roc

You head out to the East, where you can distinctly see a treeline past about a mile of mostly razed land. The road here is well-made, and so new that there aren't even any potholes or ruts. The road, however, ends about halfway to the treeline. From there, a trail continues through a grassy field.   As you get closer, you get a better look at the trees that make up this forest. The trunks of these trees are large, with rough bark ranging from an orangey red to a warm plum. The bulk of the trunks are boughless; the leafage doesn't really begin until about 2/3 of the way up the trunk. The trees are coniferous, and dark green masses of fragrant needles grow thickly into a ceiling of foliage.   Because the bases of the trees are rather spread, at least six feet apart between the largest ones, you can see through layers of trees stretching into the forest until their lines intersect into a mass of red wood.   You head to a spot where the natural growth of the dew wood trees grown into a sort of a doorway. The lofty branches of two trees, their bases about ten feet apart, are entwined together, wrapping around each other, resulting in a massive arch. It is difficult to say whether or not this was an intentional manipulation or a simple coincidence; the growth is not quite symmetrical, and it would certainly be a long and arduous task to manipulate the limbs so meticulously.   The floor of the forest is covered in a base layer of dry brown needles with the occaisonal cone. A fair number of large ferns provide some green ground cover. Jewel-green moss and flowering chartreuse ivy covers many sharp projections of rock that seem to burst from the forest floor.   There are two trails from here, although the word "trail" may be too generous. The path to the North is clear enough; layers of crushed needles weaving through the trees darken the track. You, however, are headed to the Southeast. There is less of a path from here to Senot Tik, and more of a series of loosely connnected game trails. A more clear path exists between Senot Tik and Chelu-ka, but it's farther into the forest and would take more time to reach than it would be worth.   As soon as you cross through the archway into the forest, the soft vegetation around you seems to swallow all the sounds of the city. You weren't even aware of the quiet noises until they suddenly stopped. The air is cooler, as well. The rooftop of trees provides a near constant shade, and those unprepared may feel a bit of a shiver.   During the day, the chattering of birds can be heard, and the occaisonal squirrel or other tree-swinging forest dweller may show its face. However, since the forest provides little cover for creatures wishing to avoid predation, much of the wildlife is nocturnal.
