Nuvas Plain

The Nuvas Abyssal Plain is underneath Lake Nuvanne, the birth place of Lancelot of the Round Table. It is here that the nymphs of Lake Nuvanne used to live and convene beneath the water, though their settlements have since moved after Nuvanne was claimed the true owner of the lake entire. So, it is only Nuvas and their supporters that make their home this close to the surface.   This part of the lake is subjected to heavy pruning to make sure that the ecosystem can maintain itself amid the many items that surface dwellers seem to throw into the depths. Aware that this could cause trouble to the health of the lake, it is the responsibility of the nymphs - as it is for sentient species to take care of their fellow plants and animals - to preserve the beauty and prosperity of the abyssal plain.

Geography

It is an underwater flatland that lies under the surface of Lake Nuvanne and forms the submerged circumference of the lake, where the water is the shallowest and supports the plant life that peeks up from below. It serves as the boundary between the mundane surface and the main depths of the lake where nymphs live and maintain the ecosystem and their own civilisations.   Most surface dwellers consider the abyssal plain the deepest part of where they can travel, the rest hidden through the powers of the nymphs who protect their homes from prying eyes. To someone without privileged access, the Nuvas Plain makes up the entirety of Lake Nuvanne.   Though not especially exotic, observers are keen to point out its natural beauty - unmatched in its simplicity and unattachment from the needs of tourists or rich patrons. The lake is an example of how life can prosper without the interference of the aether-ignorant, who see themselves as custodians over all nature that they set eyes upon - with or without its permission.

Fauna & Flora

The varieties of fish here are staples to the greater area of what is now known as Alain. The most famous of these is the Sunset Bass, which only gains its famous glow when its scales reflect the light of a sunset. Other varieties common to the Nuvas Plain tend to stay on the bottom of it for most of their lives, including but not limited to local crab species.    Smaller lifeforms make their home on the bottom, feeding off the nutrients of dead animals that have long sunk to the bottom. Others hide amongst the seaweed and other ocean plants, content to never see for themselves where the sunlight streaming down on them truly comes from.    The flora here are bountiful, able to take in the sunlight through the water and the nutrients beneath them. Though most would say that the plant inhabitants of the Nuvas Plain are not the most colourful, they are boundlessly healthy and have a lot of subtle variety.    Algae settles on the surface of the lake close to where plants break the surface or stay in the waters. Between the two extremes of the dead bottom and the prospering life above, fish are abundant but timid creatures.

Natural Resources

Many of the small stones within Lake Nuvanne gather here at the bottom of its cool waters, as well as a covering of sand across the entire lakebed. Decaying bodies of fish or plants also gather one the surface of the abyssal plain, making it a prime area for sea plants to find nutrients and grow.   Humans and other sentient species have disposed of their unwanted possessions over the years, which the nymphs love to repurpose for their own reasons. Though they hate that people mistreat their sacred waters, they also enjoy seeing the oddities of the surface world and how they work. Some of these trinkets, however, don't survive the journey and aren't often made to function underwater and thus seem useless but ultimately decorative to them.   They have since picked the plain of their former belongings and in their place lies husks of nymph meeting places and sometimes homes. These areas are now homes to nature rather than its aquatic custodians, devoid of their former splendour or importance.

History

The Nuvas Abyssal Plain got its name when the nymph Nuvas hit the bottom of the lake and was thus born there. This is common practise for how nymphs gain their names and stations, being born from falling stars that land in bodies of water.   At this time, the entire lake was known by this name as well until another nymph was born there and it came to be known as Lake Nuvanne. It caused a schism between those nymphs living in the lake - those who saw it as belonging to Nuvanne and those who thought that it still belonged to Nuvas. In the end, the surface people only recognised Nuvanne as the one in charge of the lake entire, and thus Nuvas was downgraded to supervising this small area of Lake Nuvanne.

This is really interesting. I love the section about the flora and fauna - I'm really intrigued by the sunset bass.

Thanks so much for reading! Hopefully I'll get to writing more about it by the end of WorldEmber, or perhaps before then. :)
