Leray Mitigation Agent

The Leray Mitigation Agency was created in 1972 shortly after The Burst, in order to control or assist in new related problems around the world generated or related to the misuse of Leray magic. Before the LMA could operate effectively, LMA agents needed to have top of the line training in both physical, military, tactical, and magical combat preparations. These training exercises lasted for more than a year, often under fierce and harsh conditions to prepare its soldiers for any potential deadly situation to the world outside of Sprawn Valley.

Since 1974, the LMA has undergone vigorous training, turning its soliders into highly effective killing machines, if the need to play defense ever came to be. Being an LMA agent is no easy task, and requires freuquently risking one's life for deadly missions that no other agent of Sprawn Valley would ever dare take on. They are known as the elites of the elites, and the only authority figures that may operate in a manner outside the country.

Career Progression

The training required to be a deployable LMA agent is extreme and vigorous, often compared to "boot camp on steroids." While magical skill and aptitude are important, physical fighting skills as well as defensive maneuvers and tactical decision making must be drilled into every soldier as well. The dangers of death that lurk outside the safe zone of Sprawn Valley make such harsh training conditions necessary for potential deployment. This training can take a minimum of 18 months, and up to several years for preparation.

Purpose

The purpose of an LMA agent is to "mitigate" the effects of all the new magical veils generated by the burst in 1972. More specifically, the purpose of the LMA is to travel to problematic countries potentially allied with Sprawn Valley's diplomatic relations, and cease hostilities from any faction that has proven to make violent and unsanctioned use of Leray magic from their associated veil. The agents effectively police any person or organization who uses Leray magic as a dangerous means to accomplish selfish goals, only on a more grand scale. Smaller infractions are left to the local police of those communities. The LMA will only get involved when the conflict is as large as imminent or post-ignited warfare.

Social Status

Some see LMA agents as a gross overreach of political power, as unwanted police agents getting involved in something that is not their business, while others deem LMA agents as heroes for putting their lives in danger to relieve hostile tensions brought on by rouge magic users. Though the perception is mixed among the LMA and Leray magic itself, the LMA does not have enough effective agents to operate in more than two countries at the same time, so perception of their operations is still highly limited.

Tools

Most tools and materials to LMA agents are self-picked, though the availability of the new Stun Rifle and Stun Baton technology is highly favored to those who want to fight in a pacifist manner. Live ammunition machine guns and assault rifles are authorized for use depending on mission specifications.

Dangers & Hazards

The hazard of the profession is in its very nature during deployment, with the largest potential threat to life being firearm usage by enemies. Most agencies of Sprawn Valley operate within veil zero, which protect any and all members from death by most elements of damage and devastation. While other veils around the world now exist from the burst, these veils which enable Leray magic spells do not provide the full protective effects from such spells, or in other cases, normally lethal tools such as guns. Though some alternate veils offer a natural level of partial protection, it is not a full protection to damage, while most other veils provide no protection at all.

LMA agents who have been deployed are usually handling some of the roughest or nastiest jobs, and therefore put their lives at risk by getting involved in other affairs that may not want them welcome.
