Draconids

Not to be confused by the religion and language of the same name. Actually. Yes to be confused because there's quite a bit of overlap between the three. And by quite a bit I mean it's like, a circle.   An ancient clan of people and one of the first major groups in Hoenn, who have survived in all terrains and circumstances for over 3000 years. Now though, their numbers are quite few, because that's just what happens over time, man.   Sidenote: There's various branches of the Draconid religion, some of which are very much not dead, but this refers to the ethnicity and the original iteration of the religion.

Naming Traditions

Other names

Names are often derived from natural elements - this used to be mainly stones and gems, but then conflict caused a vendetta for using those as names so now it's usually flowers and other flora. Yea, having beef with a family who's last name is 'stone' completely changed naming traditions because Rayquza herself is the biggest drama queen known to mankind :/

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

The Draconid language, as well as Hoennese. Draconids speaking other language have a rather common dialect of emphasizing s and r sounds.   The Draconid language is considered almost dead with only around 100 living people knowing it, many of whom are aging, though a certain lorekeeper has taken steps to preserve it.

Culture and cultural heritage

Shared customary codes and values

The value of family is extremely strong. Draconids will often value family above all else, and if your biological family sucks, found family bonds are just as important, and abandoning your biological family if they suck is permitted, if not encouraged. The other important and main value upheld is co-existence with nature and pokemon, not just dragons, but being a dragon tamer is also... pretty important.

Average technological level

As draconids are one of the oldest ethnic groups in the region, if not the world, they've made large strides and contributions to the technological world, most notably aeronautics, health, and the extensive research of infinity energy. They're also responsible for early acceptance of dragon-type pokemon.

Common Etiquette rules

Emphasis is put on being mindful of others as well as nature, and trying to not harmfully impact either, because that's mean, man.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

It's very common for multiple generations of family to live together, even if the living space is small, because of how important family is.

Common Taboos

Ever since conflict and war that took place thousands of years ago, the relationship between Draconids and Sootopolians hasn't been great. The two groups historically haven't gotten along, though in the modern age it's calmed down... mostly since the numbers of both groups have dwindled significantly.

Common Myths and Legends

Historical figures

The lorekeeper The lorekeeper lineage is descended from the emissary of Rayquaza's own sister, and are the main spiritual figures - living alongside the emissary and essentially being prophets, as well as community leaders. While this lineage still goes on to the current day, they don't really do much of what they used to, aside from making sure the occasional meteor doesn't kill everyone.   Emerald / Emmy / Rayquaza The emissary of Rayquaza - effectively immortal, she lives alongside each generation of lorekeepers. She's worked to protect Draconids and done like, a lot of stuff, for better or for worse. Originally the known as the girl who befriended Rayqyaza, a whole series of events led to her BECOMING Rayquaza, and picking up the duties that came along with it.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The most common physical traits Draconids have are dark skin, slightly sharper than normal canines, and red eyes - the red eyes tend to be the most iconic of the bunch. These traits are reminiscent with the belief that Draconids are somehow connected to dragons themself.   There aren't exactly any beauty ideals.

Gender Ideals

Draconid society, before being mostly merged with Hoenn's, was largely matriarchal; mostly because the gender ratio is a bit skewed. If the gender ratio is ignored, men, women and people who think gender is for squares all hold similar power.   The gender ratio is roughly 3:1 (f:m)... why this ratio exists is largely unknown and thought to be coincidence (it's because i cant draw men)

Courtship Ideals

It generally goes from close platonic bond --> dating --> getting married. Nothing too unusual, though it's considered poor taste to hit on someone you've never talked to before.

Relationship Ideals

Due to the skewed gender ratio, F/F relationships are the most common, though other types of relationships are treated the same way. Relationships are ideally lifelong and committed, your partner being your best friend as well as your romantic partner, though the ideals aren't very enforced.

Major organizations

Draconids are considered the heart of Hoenn in a way, being one of the original founding members. They're also connected to the religion facet, though only 'traditional/ancient' Draconids; while originally responsible for other branches of the religion, they've lost a connection - though some Ethnic Draconids will choose modern versions of the religion over traditional ones... just cuz like, there's actually people there.
