Factions
Factions on the island, their histories and motivations.
Merfolk
Goals - major players - assets - history
They have noticed a reduction in non-fey visitors and trade over the past couple decades and have had no non-fey visitors in about a decade. They do not know about the hags. Made up of a large number of coral farmers, fish herders, highly-skilled artisans, noble-blooded priests, a ruling clan, and a small number of holy knights. They generally live 125-200 years, with the priests and ruling clan being especially long lived (regularly up to 250 years).
Values:
- Novelty/excitement: they love new things. A creature or trinket they have not seen in a long period of time will cause a stir at court. Children may ask many question if an outsider is in their home or family shop. There is widespread use for magic for mundane tasks and entertainment, at night the streets light up with many creative uses of cantrips like dancing lights.
- Security: this city was founded by the nominal Princeps Yisea after devastating merfolk civil war that spurred further oceanic campaigns. Through their sheltered positioning, large numbers, agrarian economy (as opposed to the more common nomadic clans merfolk live in), and good relations with neighbors (Puckish fey, ocean-fairing merchants and pirates, tritons) have given them enough power to avoid and minimize conflict. There are 2 Water Weirds tied to the entrance to important areas
- Beauty/devotion to god: Craftspeople will imbue items with intricate carvings or aesthetic enchantments if they have some innate magic.
- Hospitality: While suspicious of other noble merfolk, and evil aligned Oceanic creatures, they welcome outsiders and prize them for their goods and stories. There is a sense of pride in what they produce seeing themselves as the successors to merfolk's great city and civilization before the sundering, people may insist on giving small gifts or that the players eat their food until they get a hgh enough compliment.
Key figures:

Hag Coven
Lead by in service of an arch hag, it consists of her, 2 lobotomized sea hags and several wretches. The arch hag and Gramma Gangreen made a deal with Umberly and this Kraken to defile the island's beauty and deliver the flesh and gold of passing ships to the kracken and Umberlee respectively..
Values:
- Defilement: Hags view beauty as a moral ill and its destruction into thing s of ugliness to be good. They love to see suffering, distrust, and disintegration of hard built bonds. These hags are here to despoil the merfolk's overly beautiful and peaceful city and to fuck with Puck.
- The Matriarch: Hags have a very strict social hierarchy centered around deference to their "Mother". Gramma, has siphoned enough INT from her coven members that they act mostly as automatons with brief flickers of recognition and personality. They hate they bare her is nothing to that they bare you, while they would love to kill her, even i freed from her spell in battle they will not turn against her until the fight is won.
Members:
- Gramma Gangreen: Head of this coven. she has siphoned intelligence from the Kracken, her "sisters", and some mortals she keeps to run errands and torment. She is in service to an Arch-Sea-Hag who came up with the initial plans and struck the deal with Umberlee and the Kracken. While Gramma
- Sister Scurvy & Sister Sepsis: The "daughters" of Gangreen's slain "daughter" they came to her to form a coven to seek vengeance. Gangreen had recently entered into the deal with the arch-hag and (never having the status she thought she deserved plus not particularly liking her progeny) lured them to the island where she siphoned their intelligence
- :
