Stupid Gnomes
Gnome researchers that wannted to increase the magic in t mortal plane. We are currently dealing with the consequences of their stupid actions.
Etherium was decreasing in the world and they intended to restore it. To do so they intended to tap into the void behind our world where all etherium escapes too through diffusion. They wanted to make it so that the 4 ancient trees that connect to the elemental planes spread etherium instead of oxygen by connecting there roots to this void.
They picked Rooted Disaster as the location as it was safe. but after a while the environment became sentient when the first root blackened.
After pinning the roots here the team received reports from shamans and necromancers back home that the amount of lingering spiritis was dwindling and the Jabralta Tree blackened completely. The dead were being pulled into the tree and pushed into the void. Here their pain manifested as sxreams.
They created a ward to keep the monster that was created out, but it didn't ease their feelings at all. They felt as if their work had become infected and the trapezohedron looks at them as if alive. The start of their paranoia.
The paranoia grew and they became more used to the dark but their sight dwindled (they might have turned into different things). Their distrust of each other grew believing themselves to be healthy but all others infected.
