Session 05 - Welcome to Tradegate
General Summary
With VV and Satoshi staying at the World Serpant Inn to recover from bad nachos, the rest of the group headed to Tradegate. On their way they were tracked down by a Kaorti Initiate hunting the piece of resin they won. Drakor delivered several devastating blows and they quickly defeated it. Continuing on, they passed a sunfly carrying a small desert.
At the entrance of Tradegate they met two shopkeepers, a dwarf with a mechanical arm called Soodether selling beverages and a tiefling named Davari adopting out rescued pets. Overjoyed, Drakor adopted a lizard, Varix a microbat, and Clover a guinea pig, and they all signed contracts for their adoption.
Tradegate is a star shaped town with grey warehouses on the outside and beautiful blue-toned buildings towards the center. At the Everything Emporium, the buzzing market at the center, the floor is checked with gold and violet tiles, and shops are covered by beautiful burgundy fabric. The majority of residents are dwarves and gnomes, as Bytopia, the plane Tradegate leads to, is known for their dwarven and gnomish gods and denizens. Walking through the Emporium, Clover sees a bariaur who looks identical to her mentor Skeppy. However this is the Trademaster, the living portal to Bytopia, who has taken the form of Skeppy after meeting him decades ago and admiring his moral values. They head to the Trademill Mint to exchange their gold for the local cobalt currency called Lodestars, but the bank is attacked by a hungry xorn. While it's a tricky fight and the xorn consumes 25gp of their party funds, the group manages to kill the elemental and convince the banker Erasimus Astralbeard to give them 6,000 Lodestars for their piece of Kaorti resin. It excites the banker as kaorti resin might not attract more xorn. They are told about the finest shops in the Emporium for their needs, and they are also informed that the modron named Trine they're looking for is married to Melvin Manyroads, the famous cartographer who lives in a turquoise tower with a marigold roof.
Rewards Granted
For defending the Trademill Mint against a hungry Xorn, the banker let the group trade their remaining party funds (that were not gobbled by the Xorn) and the Kaorti resin for 6,077 cobalt Lodestars, the currency of Tradegate that's also accepted throught the Outlands. Their transaction fee of 5% was waved, and they were even given a 10% bonus on their party fund transaction. When they return to the mint to exchange the Lodestars for gold, the 5% transaction fee will be returns - however, since they weren't charged it to begin with, who knows if the next banker will remember that fact.
Missions/Quests Completed
The players saved the Trademill Mint from a hungry xorn, though the banker Erasimus Astralbeard notes that it wasn't the biggest xorn that feasts on their gold supplies.
