Malar
The Hunt
Malar is the god of the hunt, and is one of the few beings credited with killing a god. Together with Fesol, Malar overpowered Mielikki, the previous goddess of animals. After Mielikki was weakened by Fesol's poisons, Malar struck the killing blow and claimed her domains as his own, taking her place in the green pantheon. Some of the other gods in the green pantheon resent Malar for this as they had great respect for Mielikki. Many priests of Malar follow teachings that are similar to those of Mielikki left over from The Great Conversion, when followers of Mielikki either abandoned their way of life after the goddess died or converted to the new following of Malar. Many of Mielikki's teachings were inherited, such as protecting forests from deforestation, marking hunting grounds, or praying that Malar guides children back home after they became lost in the forest, though these are now done with a darker tone and made out of fear rather than reverence. However a new ritual has arisen from his followers called "The High Hunt", where a captured humanoid is released and given a four hour head start before being hunted for 48 hours. Temples to Malar are often found in forests on the outskirts of towns, and are known to provide meats to widows, orphans, the elderly, and the sick to help them last through winter.Divine Domains
