Cabin Boy
Often found on Navy and Pirate vessels, a Cabin boy was basically a servant, usually under the age of 16. Many of the boys made their way aboard the vessels by being kidnapped or stowing aboard. Most would be orphans.
Treated as a servant, the Cabin boy was paid very little. He served the captain and officers food and drink, did chores about the ship, and could double as a powder monkey. They often were used as scouts up on the Crow's mast as well.
