Applescarn Mountains

This mountain range is in the western area of the Pinegaard continent.

Geography

It reaches 17,000 feet and is 700 miles north to south. The range features nonvolcanic and volcanic mountains, including Ice Wyrm’s Wrath. Thick pine trees are scattered throughout the mountain range as well. Various people and species inhabit the mountain after Pinegaard was brought to the Fey Realm thousands of years ago.

Ecosystem

The climate is colder in the eastern part of the range and it gets warmer as folks travel toward the west. There are berries, apples, and other fruits that grow in the region. Bears, bobcats, goats, mountain lions, coyotes, and wolves roam the range.

History

The folks who live in the mountains have various stories explaining the area and features. One example originates from the giantkin and frost giants who reside near the peaks. The frost giant Doraol and the white wyrm Icingar fought a fierce battle that caused the mountains to erupt and shape the slopes and peaks. The two enemies fell during a fierce grapple exchange, creating the valley in the middle of the range.   Once the Ancient Ones brought Pinegaard to the Fey Realm, native fey from the Autumn and Northern courts came to explore the mountains only to encounter people already living there. Some native fey chose to remain in the mountains and live with the folk.   The years of interaction and relationships resulted in paths and routes being established to help travelers through dangerous areas. Most people currently living in the mountains are nomadic groups who view the range as their domain, as well as wardens who protect the area and aid travelers trying to pass through the region - for a price.

Tourism

POINTS OF INTEREST   Aylahorn - a series of rock formations where Titan magic lingers.   Breeza’s Cave - an opening inside the mountains where travelers can rest. Those who sleep in or near the cave can hear the spirit of Breeza, a woods witch, who protects the mountainside from evil spirits. Some folks have claimed to dream about Breeza’s last battle with the dwarf-cambion Rugal.   Hestia’s Hold - a fortress built on the old lair of the dragon Hestiaryzan, or Hestia the Red Knight as she’s known to those who honor her name. The hold was built in dedication to Hestia and her lover, the vampire dragon Flolagosa. The fortress was seen as a beacon of hope until the dwarf-cambion Rugal and his minions took over the fort from the Red Knights during a siege.
