Stone Dryads

Dryads are native to the Fey Realm, found in forests in the Four Courts of the fey, and surrounding regions, like Pinegaard. Their natural habitat lies in trees, but some have adapted to living in the soil and rocky mountain terrain. These beings are known as stone dryads.   Like their cousins, whose powers come from trees, stone dryads are in tune with the nature around them. They can shift the earth around them, and move underground without being noticed.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Summer Court fairy noble Tambria Violethair recorded the first encounters with the stone dryads in the Applescarn Mountains after seeing one near her camp. Her notes state that she saw a grey-skinned woman covered in what appeared to be clothes made of stone, sprouted from the ground and walked down a freshly-made trail.    Fearing for her safety, Tambria shot an arrow at the woman, only for it to bounce off the woman's skin. Tambria spent the next four days searching for the stranger, eventually finding a group of four in a circle. She apologized for the attempted arrow shot and asked to observe them. After recording their interactions, Tambria likened the figures to tree dryads who lived near her home.

Genetics and Reproduction

Tambria recorded that stone dryads reproduce asexually by using the soil to make stone circles and transferring a portion of their life force into the child.

Growth Rate & Stages

Stone dryads mature at 30 years old and can live for thousands of years.

Ecology and Habitats

Stone dryads are nomadic and live in tiny communities of five or six. They are neutral toward most people and are untrusting when they first meet someone. They are friendly to giant-kin, giants, and other dryads.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Stone dryads don't need to eat food or breathe. They can speak the dialect of their native region.

Biological Cycle

When a stone dryad is dying, they bury themselves into the ground until their last breath. Once they're dead, they release their remaining lifeforce and power into the earth.
