Mahou Choujo Psyche
Mahou Choujo Psyche (魔法蝶女サイキ) is a magical girl manga created by Ayaka Suzuki. The name is a portmanteau of "Mahou Shoujo" (Magical Girl) and "Chou" (Butterfly). It first began serialization in the monthly manga anthology Nakayoshi on February 6, 2014. The manga was initially licensed for an English release by VIZ Media in North America. Mahou Choujo Psyche was adapted to an anime series produced by Studio Shaft, which began airing in January as part of the Winter 2017 season.
Akane Hoshino/Choujo Monarch - An intelligent straight-A student who serves as the class representative. Cold, distant, and aloof, with a glare that can shut down any attempts at conversation. Prefers to avoid socializing with other people, thinking they're not worth her time. Slowly learning to open up to others, but must be dragged kicking and screaming into doing so. Utilizes PK Fire and later PK Burst.
Aoi Kawasaki/Choujo Morpho - An outgoing class clown who loves to have fun and make people laugh. Brash, boisterous, and possesses a seemingly endless amount of energy. Can unintentionally put people off with her overly forward nature. Wastes no time trying to make Akane and Charma laugh or smile. Utilizes PK Freeze and later PK Splash.
Natsuki Matsumoto/Choujo Birdwing - A closet otaku and aspiring mangaka. Incredibly shy and awkward, to the point of almost never speaking. Suffered a lot of bullying over her interests, leading to her current state. Torn between being scared of her new magical girl situation and thinking it's the best thing ever. Utilizes PK Wind and later PK Green.
Mikado Igarashi/Choujo Swallowtail - A member of the Hanafusa High School soccer team. One of the most athletic girls in the school despite her heavy build. Generally laid back and easy to get along with, but can also be lazy and unmotivated, which doesn't make her popular with her teammates. Can display a frightening temper if pushed too far, however. Utilizes PK Thunder and later PK Flash.
Marisol Kurosawa/Itzpapalotl - A later addition to the Choujos. Transfers to Hanafusa High School after the events of the Black Sun Arc. Has a headstrong personality and won't take any insults lying down. Quickly becomes close to Chou, though the rest of the Choujos are still warming up to her. Unlike the rest of the Choujos, she has a skull motif, and her transformation chrysalis resembles a coffin. Utilizes PK Ground and later PK Gravity.
Charma - A member of a race of powerful psychics from another dimension. Ended up trapped in the human world after being attacked by the Akumushi. Lost access to most of her powers, so gives specialized rings to the Choujos so they can help her with her mission. Stoic and levelheaded, but lacks emotions and social skills. Has taken a liking to Earth food, particularly sweets. Utilizes ESP and telepathy, as well as a "Brain Squeeze" that gives splitting headaches to anyone whose head she touches.
Plot
Mahou Choujo Psyche follows 15-year-old Chou Fujiwara, a girl who is friendly and kind but doesn't really know what she wants to do with her life. On her first day of high school, she's thrust through a series of events including falling for her charming new classmate Kaito Aikyo, becoming the target of beauty queen Miyuki Oryo's jealousy-fueled anger, accidentally befriending four outcast girls...and rescuing a mysterious girl with butterfly wings from a group of insect-like monsters called "Akumushi" ("Black Bugs" in the English translation). The girl, Charma, gives Chou a butterfly ring that lets her turn into Mahou Choujo Psyche, granting her psychic powers and the ability to destroy the Akumushi, which feed off of negative emotions and can transform people into monsters. Chou is soon joined by her four new friends: cold, snarky Akane; brash, energetic Aoi; shy, awkward Natsuki; and laid-back, easygoing Mikado. Together, they combat the Akumushi and try to get to the bottom of where they originate--and who might be controlling them.Characters

Chou Fujiwara/Choujo Psyche - The main character of the series. Kind and friendly, but can be scatterbrained at times. Wants to figure out what she wants to do with her life, but dislikes being pressured to do so. Not as good with her powers as the rest of the Choujos, so makes up for it with actual fighting.
