Elf

Theo placed the final loose cog in the pocket watch Captain Roger brought for her to fix with a satisfied smirk. She waved her hand and a ghostly after image of her hand picked up the watch and brought it closer to her magnifying glass. She turned it slowly, inspecting it not just with her eyes, but with her ears. The subtle tick, tick, tick of the second hand told her it was working. She placed a tag reading "repaired" on it and set it aside, ready to begin working on her next project -- creating a pair of sending stones.

History

All elves are descended from a group of spacefarers from the Eleventh Planet, and arrived on Phantasmagoria seeking a cure for a fertility plague that nearly wiped out their whole species. The technology to create the ships that allowed them to leave was either lost or destroyed, as they crashed during the Century of Nightmares. They cured the plague by magically assimilating the essence of the different Phantasmagorians, and have a strong affinity for both magic and tinkering with technology, even to this day. Elves also adapt to their environment quickly and as a result, there are many different kinds of elves throughout the cosmos. In the Shadowlands, there are Shadow Elves and in the Feylands, there are the Tael Elves. Elves that live underwater are referred to as Quan Elves, while the elves of Guzzland prefer to call themselves Drow Elves.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Elves view other species of Phantasmagorian humanoids with a mixture of admiration and amusement. They used magic and technology to mix their genes with the other humanoids, allowing them to survive as a species, as well as reproduce and produce kudari children, something which most elves are thankful for.

Drow and the Other Elves

Unlike other settings, where Drow are evil and have an unnatural hatred for other elves, Phantasmagorian elves don't subscribe to such philosophies. Most of the Drow Elves that are alive today are members of the original expedition into the Underdark, and they left on friendly terms.

Author's Notes

Elves in this setting age very differently from elves in other settings, because the idea of a 20 year old human dating a 120 year old elf makes me vastly uncomfortable, and the idea that elves reach maturity at 100 is quite frankly, absurd. Tortoises, which live to be up to about 120 years old, reach maturity relatively fast compared to their life span at just 5 to 8 years old.
