Macha

Macha is a member of the Tuatha de Danaan, often depicted as a woman with long ebony hair and the skin as pale as porcelain constantly weaving a tapestry which represents the destiny of creation. She is the keeper of the fate.

Summary

Macha is commonly depicted as a woman sitting at a loom producing an endless tapestry which represents the fate of the whole creation. With long raven hair and diaphanous skin, Macha usually keeps her blue eyes shut while mentally receiving constant visions of events from the future. At the same time, the dexterous and elongated hands keep weaving the thread of destiny. Macha usually wears a light tunic of a sandy colour fabric and a rust red shawl around her shoulders kept in place by brooch shaped as an owl's head, animal related to the third sight. If compelled to fight her avatar will use a mithril spindle as sharp as a dagger. Her sacred emblem is a loom.

Historical Basis

The physical and mental aspect of Macha are strongly inspired to the hystorical person of Fidelia le Blanc, who wrote s'istorias de Faldoria in s'annu dughentu

Spread

Macha is a deity worshipped in every human country across Phaldorya, although in a way much less apparent compared to the other members of the Tribe. Macha has a small number of temples of minor extension, nevertheless any God-fearing man will pay every possible attention to not offend or inimicate her. She is worshipped mostly by seers because, it is commonly believed, that Macha provides the gift of the Third Sight. Also Divinators have a special veneration for her that consider Macha as a peer.

Cultural Reception

Macha is respected, more than worhsipped, in every country. The metaphore of the tapestry indicates that the destiny of every creature is intertwined to that of the other, so that every action that affects one creature affects the whole thread. For the same reason, although, occasionaly prayed to demand a bright future or to escape impeding catastrophes, rarely she will receive a request to alter one's destiny because the long-term effect are impossible to be forecasted.
