Summary In the depictions of Danu, she is a middle aged woman, with long auburn hair, often pregnant or with a newborn in her arms. In most of instances she wears a green cape and carries a sickle at her belt. She is the Mother goddess of the Tuatha de Danaan (Danu's children) and is invoked to grant fertility for the land, the animals and the people. She is also considered the protector of children and life, so in some areas the medical and healing arts are assiciated to her protection, in particular the work of the midwives. She is not a warlike divinity and the respect that she commands protects her from attempts of usurping her, even from the most malignant of divinities. The colour associated to her is green and her holy symbol is a crescent moon Historical Basis Her imagery and personality is based to the historical figure of Queen Eleanor, at least in the western continent. She is worshipped in all continent, with numerous variants, in particular by women and farmers.
