Round 5

M climbs K (acrobatics 16) but slips as she tries to jump to the dais (acrobatics 12), she manages to grab onto the ledge (dex save 21) and G uses her reaction to grab her and pull her up (dex save 19) M then holds her action to cast command once she can get eyes on Vaeloron. As she stands up, she feels a pull in her chest, and as she exhales and orb falls from her chest containing Korbus’ Grace
Invisible dude tries to charm K but fails (wisdom save 17) then Verrus steps out from the shadows and attempts another spell but K also saves against that (wisdom save 25)
M hears shuffling on the other side of the wall as if reaching into a pouch, hears mumbling but can’t make out details
Vaeloron shifts some walls to place more around M and G as well as another in front of himself and Nekros
Riordan takes 6 damage from adaptive overload then swings at B with some magic punch but misses with 16
G swings at the wall with her pickaxe, hitting with 22 and dealing 11 damage, destroying it before swinging at the second and hitting with 21 and dealing 15, destroying it also and revealing a shocked Vaeloron. M casts command on Vaeloron, telling him to grovel, he fails his wisdom save with 3 and falls to his knees in fear. G runs through and jumps over him, runs up to Nekros and S and attempts to use Time Step and pull S in with her but feels that it would also pull Nekros in as she noticed the memory shard belonging to S in his hand. She also feels that it would allow Nekros extra time to do whatever he was planning before she could stop him, allowing him to complete whatever he is attempting here. She decides instead to use an ability to get her action surge back and succeeds (nat 20) and uses it swinging at Nekros missing twice with 16 and 11. A shadowy tendril lashes out at her and attempts to wrench her weapon from her hands but she resists with a 15 strength save
K drops wildshape and flies up past M and heads towards Nekros, stabbing him with gold flame blade getting past his sanctuary with 25 wisdom save and hits with 23 dealing 6+2 damage. feels like stabbing into a target dummy as the body doesn’t seem to react, giving her the impression that Varik is only in connection with the body mentally and thus doesn’t react to pain
B takes out his Bottle of Noxious Fumes and tries to shove it into Riordan’s mouth almost missing but putting all her can into it manages smash it in his mouth as a poison cloud spills from his mouth then smacks him with a nat 20 and he becomes grappled by the blade (strength save 15) and dealing 28 damage, halved to 14

Quintessential Villain Monologue

Nekros’ skin starts to pulsate and grow beneath his armour with green and blue blotches appearing as his armour starts to crack. He turns his head to regard the group and says “I need to show all of you...” As the armour breaks a pulse shoot outs around him, destroying walls, pushing G back 5 feet (strength save 24) and sending K flying back (dex save 11) Vaeloron gets pushed backwards, into the blood pool, cracking his head on the wall and dying as he sinks into the blood ( dex save 14)
Nekros holds S up by the neck, his hand growing as his body does, encompassing more of her small body and continues saying “You know why this insect was drawn to you? She had been called, did you know that? She was called to be a champion of Skurth, do you believe that? But she completely rejected that” his face tenses with anger as K yells out “Yeah, who wouldn’t”
Nekros continues “You see, Sylvara wasn’t originally Sylvara. She was an extremely powerful Archfey. So powerful that she would even attend the court of queens without ever being dedicated to a single one, and I can tell you, that’s not an easy feat”
The group feel another pulse pushing against them again, Nekros continues “I had to seek a one-time spell at a terrible cost to my host at the time, to have her shape permanently changed into this broken child you see before you now. I was unable to erase her memories, so I did it through magic, and so I took them wholly” he holds up the memory crystal
He adds “I replaced them with the already scrambled memories of a broken Fairy I had already worn, and I did my best to erase them. She was set into your world with the false memories I left her with and with just enough fire to seek out the other champions. Everything she experienced from then on was real and true”
He crushes her neck in his hand and drops her body on the floor as the whole building starts to rumble around them
He throws the crystal at the door behind him, clinking against it before settling in the air just before it
He looks up with a smile and says “They bleeding seal has finally been activated! I did it! I finally did it! Do you know how hard it is to feed a magic circle 100 deaths? 200 hundred deaths?! 300!”
B shouts “Oh shut up!” K calls him pathetic and G growls at him. M is so far dissociated that she doesn’t have any quips, but she does look around the room and says “Luka, your chance is getting pretty close”
G gets the sense that if they can get the memory crystal back into S, it might be able to do something for her (arcana 15)
K feels that if they get the crystal back in her, she won’t even need to use revivify to bring her back as an archfey and champion of Skurth, but it unsure if the memories she made as Sylvara will be present (Religion 20, B 7, M arcana 12)
He turns to the group, bashing his fists together with a big, ear-to-ear grin and says “In case you were wondering, no one up there will be able to escape now, if they try the barrier will appear and kill them! Soon Ravenswood will be no more! It will be replaced with a portal directly to the domain of Skurth! But you know what I learned?” He takes a step forwards. “And I learned this just recently, feeding the barrier a champions soul empowers it a hundred times more than a normal soul would, and you see, and you see, I’ve sent my very last warrior to claim the ones you left behind”
The group sees another crystal begin hovering near the door that they are able to infer as belonging to Skylla, as the one belonging to J also floats with the other two
Nekros says “I used all the power and genius I had to make that monstrosity up there. Once it’s done with your friends it will come down here to claim you”

Round 6

M puts her hand on The Ash Song and reaches out to Korbus saying now would be the time to send power to her and reaches out with her mind, feeling the magic of the ritual in the room and casts Dispel Magic at 4th level, using Blood & Chorus to bump it to 5th as she puts everything she has into the spell, causing her to drop to the ground with 2 failed death saves as the 3 crystals also fall to the floor as she interrupts part of the magic of the ritual, the orbs of godly boons that were removed from everyone else seem to come to life again and everyone gets the impression that if they tried they could claim the power back. M quickly gets back to her feet in a wreath of blue flame as Phoenix’s Resilience kicks in healing her for 9 and dealing 6 fire damage halved to 3 to G (dex save 20) M looks at Nekros who looks equal parts confused and pissed and says, “Sorry bud”. Everyone can also see that the room no longer looks or feel like the center of a sandstorm
Verrus tries to necrotic lash K but misses with nat 1 and avoids falling into the blood as he stumbles
Nekros looks at M and G and they lose their ability to cast spells (wisdom save M 11, G nat 1) then he hits M with 18, dealing 19 damage and downing her before swinging at G hitting with 19 and does 14 damage
Riordan takes 7 damage as the Shabtooth Ripper continues to gnaw into his flesh then takes another 2 from adaptive overload then swings at B, missing 3 times with 17, nat 1 and 16 as B holds him at a distance leaving him unable to get close enough to actually hit
SL fires a streak of fire towards K and G who fails their dex saves with 12 and 7 and take 21 fire damage, G uses Brutish Durability to reduce it by 2
G uses time step, bringing Sylvara and her memory shard with her as the whole room goes black and white, not the sepia tone she is used to, but she and Sylvara as well as the memory shard are in colour.

Time Step Interlude

G feels something is off and looks around the room (perception 12) as she looks into the darkest corners, she feels something a growing static and pushing against the shadows, as if Gwenzaline is trying to enter the space but can’t, but it stops when she look away. G picks up the memory shard feeling a powerful energy thrumming inside it as well as a familiar buzzing. She holds it to Sylvara’s chest, feeling that it wants to go back to her as she repeats “Please work, please work”.
As it fuses with her the room is filled with a blinding light causing G to take a step back and cover her eyes before it fades and G sees a very long, slender body wearing the now ripped and torn clothes of Sylvara hovering in the air as she regards G
G notices the space around Sylvara is in the familiar sepia tone
G asks if she remembers her, S looks down at her body and says “I remember everything” as she lights up a fire ball in one hand and a ball of lightning in the other before snuffing them out and saying “My magic is mine again. I am whole again” She finally regards G and says “I am Sylvareth”
G is in awe and can’t find any memory of the name in her mind (history 7, arcana nat 1)
G uses enlarge, S tilts her head and says “Curious” as G moves into the aura of sepia tone around S she can hear Gwenzaline yelling that the town is being attacked
S points a finger at Nekros and says “Sealed my magic, did you?” and blasts him hitting with 26 and dealing 36 damage that also destroys a number of walls
G says “let’s do this” (persuasion 21) S looks at her and regards her in her entirety, G feels as though S knows everything about her in that moment and while doesn’t get a bad feeling from it, feels a definite uncertainty

Round 6 Cont.

The is a brief flash of blinding light and a beam of magic that shoots through Nekros and destroys a number of walls but no known source of it
K picks up M and flies down by the stairs, pulls a healing arrow from her quiver and stabs it into M healing her for 12 + 8 from Sylvareth before bringing Vaeloron back as a zombie, sending him at Verrus but misses with 9
B lifts Riordan using the sword and moves forward to the edge of the blood pool, uses the Clawshot Sigil orb, giving him the ability back and fires it at Nekros who fails his strength save with 8 pulling him over and takes a swing at him with Riordan and the sword hitting him with a divine smite, dealing 15 slashing and 12 radiant damage as well as half of each to Riordan
Nekros sounds a little panicked and says “This isn’t worth it. I might go check on the monster above, would you like to see?” as the body that had been housing Varik goes slack jawed, only able to make guttural noises from this point
M feels Varik’s magic try to enter her mind, not feeling that it is something harmful she decides to let it in as she fears his last comment implied the possibility of people being teleported away and doesn’t want to risk being left alone down here. As soon as she chooses to accept it both her and K (intelligence save 11) find that one of their eyes is no longer seeing what is in the room in front of them, instead it is looking a the town
B (intelligence save 7) hears George stuttering, B tells him to fight it, George says he might be able to isolate and capture and asks if he should proceed, B tells him to display it in the bottom corner of his view which he is able to do then asks if he would like to have it displayed on a hologram, B says he doesn’t know what that is and George shoots out a little piece that acts as a projector displaying the scene above

Subround 1

Following Varik’s gaze in whatever form he is currently in the group see the streets of Ravenswood as a huge stone amalgamation smashes its way through town and are able to see the combined work of Verrus, Jian Chan and Tibor Noviko. There are multiple holes across its form that are slowly secreting a toxic compound
T breaks from the group hitting the creature in the arm causing it to go limp for a moment
Alastros, flanking with T, climbs up the other arm and starts slicing through the tube carrying the toxin through its body, weakening the arm
The monster slams its hand down, Draekos tries to block it with his trident but is overwhelmed and it goes to pound him with the other fist
V launches a spear at it, which lodges itself in a crack in its face and as it recoils instead swings into V, slamming him into a building and giving him a mortal wound

Round 7

M is able to dismiss the magic causing her one eye to see the fight in town (intelligence save 19) then uses command at level 2 on SL and Nekros’ body, commanding them to retreat, SL fails with wisdom save of 8. Nekros’ body passes with 15, M uses Ill-Fated Word but is only able to reduce it by 1 and it still passes. She then throws a dagger at Verrus saying “we need to have words” as Verrus looks at her with shock as he realises who she is, hitting with 21 and dealing 4 piercing damage to him
Verrus casts something at M and K, K fails her con save with a nat 1 and takes 11 necrotic damage, M passes with 15 and takes 5
Nekros goes to swing at B but misses twice with 15 both times
Riordan takes 4 damage from Adaptive Overload and 7 from being grappled by the sword then swings at B hitting with 18 and dealing 10 damage, then hits again with 22 dealing 16 and misses the third hit with 14
SL runs to the locked door and attacks it to get by hitting it with a ray of fire, dealing 25 fire damage and destroying it, then runs out the door
G and S pop out of the time step, revealing Sylvareth to the group for the first time. The smell of blood seems to disappear, and it almost feels like they are in a forest in her presence as moss seems to form in the cracks of the wall around her. As Giant wolf G appears next to M she destroys a wall then swipes at the remaining walls causing a chain reaction as one crumbling causes the others to also crumble (strength nat 20) G then moves up and swipes at Verrus hitting with 23 and dealing 24 slashing damage to then misses with a nat 1
M gets a sense that from S that if they don’t convince her otherwise, she’s going to kill all the enemies in the room (insight 8)
K moves to Verrus and stabs at him with her trident with gold flame blade, hitting with 23 and dealing 8 piercing damage as well as 8 piercing damage
B uses heat metal on his sword dealing 10 fire damage to Riordan and adding another resistance then swings Nekros missing the first time with 12 then swings again hitting with 18 dealing 15 slashing damage and 10 fire damage. B also gets the impression that S is going to kill everyone if not persuaded otherwise (insight 5) and says “Sylvara, we need these two alive” (persuasion 13) she just stares at him and says nothing as he gets the impression that she knows all the things he never wanted to tell someone

Subround 2

V shakes his head in the rubble and dives through a nearby window just as another fist comes down to hit him, grabbing part of an awning as he goes and jabs it into one of the holes on the monsters hand, clogging it
Alastros flips over the arm an continues slashing at tubes and wires
Draekos and T pull a combo move, managing to trip it and causing it to fall to one knee as it swings wildly, missing each time

Round 8

M looks to S and says “This body...” and points to Nekros “... is an innocent man, he’s a father of 5. Please try not to kill him” The points to Verrus and says she needs answers from him but after that she can do as she will (persuasion 18). S looks at M as she moves her gaze over her in the same way the others experienced and M hears in her mind “I’ll do what I want” M then looks to Verrus and asks if they’re going to do this the easy or hard way (intimidation 7) Verrus goes from looking like he’s about to try and bolt to like he’s accepted the fact that he’s going to die here and has resolved himself to going down with a fight. M tries to shoot K with a healing arrow but misses with an 8 then frustratedly walks over, picks up the arrow and stabs it into K, healing her for 12 + 5 from S
Verrus tries to hit G but misses with 18
Nekros swings at B missing with 12 then hits the second time with 23, dealing 15 damage
Sylvareth points at Nekros and points at him, sending another beam of magic that hits with 26 and deals 42 damage. B and M both make one last attempt to persuade her to save him (persuasion B 20, M 21) M looks at her and says “He is not the man who deserves your fury. I know I can’t stop you, but we both know there is someone much more deserving of this” the group was at the body of Nekros slumps before being magically lifted out of the pool of the blood with not a trace of it remaining on the body, which is then lowered down in front of S as the form of the monster disappears and before them is a man, lying on the ground at 0 hp. M offers S a deep curtsy in thanks
Riordan takes 20 damage from Adaptive overload and dies as the sword chews through him dealing an extra 10 damage to the body
SL looks back into the room, having just witnessed all of this and thinks better of rejoining the fight, K can see the shock on his face as he activates a rune on his boots and bolts away. (perception K nat 20 for 26 total, M 15, G 13, B 2)
G grapples Verrus in her jaws, he rolls a nat 1 to resist, causing G’s tooth to puncture his side for 14 piercing damage as he squirms
K stabs at him with her trident hitting with 18 and dealing 5 piercing before zombie Vaeloron swings, hitting with 16 and dealing 6 bludgeoning
B runs over to grab Skylla, and checks to see if she’s alive, feeling a faint breathing as S’s gaze lands upon him and he feels her approval of his choice. He carries her over to where her memory shard is and gently places it back in her chest, she takes a big breath of air and seems a lot more alive, though still unconscious. B hugs him to her as tears well up in his eyes. He also grabs J’s crystal and puts it in his bag.

Subround 3

The hole that V plugged is started to back up and the whole fist explodes, splashing itself with the liquid that starts eating away at the stone
T puts his arms around the neck of the monster and starts cracking it
Draekos stabs his trident into it, pushing deeper as he shoots a powerful jet of water into its core
Alastros goes full werewolf and tackles it as T rips its head of, defeating it

Round 9

M tells Verrus they’re not finished here before dashing up to the body of Nekros , kneeling down beside him and cradling his in her lap before gently stabbing a healing arrow into his arm healing him for 7. He wakes up, grasping his chest in a panic and looks up at M with some recognition but he can’t place where he’s seen her before, M says, “It’s ok, we’re going to get you out of this” He asks who she is and she says she’ll explain later, he introduces himself as Sorken and thanks her for saving him before asking if his kids are ok, M says last they heard his kids were fine before looking up at S in shock, M says he has her to thank for saving him. M gives S a nod and thanks her
S plants her feet on the ground for the first time and grass starts to sprout out around her then points up at the ceiling and says “Move” as she starts breaking apart the roof of the chamber, guiding the rubble away from everyone and into the blood pool until the sky is visible and she flies out
G notices as she has Verrus grappled that he has a satchel on his back and sees a scroll with a wax seal and a note on top of it, she throws him to the ground and has a look at the note, seeing that it reads “To my wife Micarafae” she calls for M and holds it out before leaving wolf form and helping K tie Verrus up
K notices zombie Vaeloron looking at Verrus and back at her, like he wants to take a bite (insight 21) she lets him. They decide to tie him to Verrus and put him in the chamber Skylla was in as zombie Vaeloron looks at K wanting to take another bite and lets him take another bite

Figuring out where to go next

M looks at Sorken and says they still have business to tend to and that she wishes she could point him to somewhere safe
Sorken sees Skylla and runs over asking if she’s ok, B reflexively pulls away before apologising saying, “You have to remember, about 5 minutes ago I was about to kill you” Sorken says for some reason he feels that was warranted
M says it’s a long story and that they’ll explain when it’s safe, he nods
Something pounds against the large doors in the back of the room, causing them to bow out momentarily before returning to normal
The group spend a moment talking about whether or not they need to get behind that door or if opening it would lead to disaster
M wonders if there are people back there that aren’t dead yet, B says “isn’t the door the portal” and M says “What if what we need to stop the ritual is behind the door?” G wonders if they could close it from the other side
M says they don’t know where everyone is, or where their bodies are and they don’t know where all the blood is coming from, B says isn’t it coming from the flowers, M says she also assumes it’s coming from the prisoners they took
M looks at K and asks if it’s really necessary to lock Verrus in the box with zombie Vaeloron, K walks up and places her hand against the wall and says “Thank you for your help, you may rest now” and his body goes back to being lifeless and she feels a wave of approval from Kallista
M walks up to the door and puts her hand against it, trying to figure out what is going on behind it and feels her hand go numb as it comes into contact with it and hears an almost familiar buzzing that might have driven her insane if she lingered longer (wisdom save 18)
She removes her hand and tries to shake the feeling back into it to no avail and says maybe they don’t go through the door and that their best bet is to find Varik
M signals to everyone that they should get moving and makes sure someone brings Verrus with them
They decide to regroup at Genevieve’s for the time being while they figure out what the next move should be
M holds her hand out to G for the letter and G hands it to her, she sees the note on it and as she lifts the note to look at the wax seal it disintegrates, revealing a blank wax seal and starts reading it as they walk back through the sewers

The Letter and Returning to Genevieve’s

As she’s holding it, she quietly repeats to herself to keep it together and she opens it and starts to read it
“From the desk of Spen Gildking
To my dearest, departed Micarafae,
I trust this letter finds you trembling.
It is a curious thing, is it not? The world mourned you—briefly. I donned the somber attire of a shattered widower with such convincing grace that even the stone angels in the family crypt seemed to weep for my "loss." I played the part of the grieving husband to perfection, receiving the hollow sympathies of the high-born while you were already being scrubbed from their memories. But that season has long since passed. You are a ghost now, Micarafae—a flicker of static in a world that has already forgotten you ever breathed. And ghosts, as you well know, have no voice.
I am writing to you from the greenhouse. I am surrounded by the heavy, sickly sweet scent of the nightshades you used to fear so much. They are blooming early this year; their fragrance reminds me of the way your skin paled during those final weeks in my house. I am sitting at the very desk where I recorded your "failings"—those two wretched occasions where you proved yourself a hollow vessel. I still feel the bile rise when I think of the wasted effort I poured into you, only for you to discard my legacy like unwanted waste. Twice you promised me an heir, and twice your body rejected the greatness I sought to plant within it. You were a broken thing, Micarafae. A flawed instrument...”
M stops walking briefly and throws up on the floor of the sewers before resuming
“I often find myself looking at the corner where you used to waste hours with your music. I cannot express how deeply I loathed the sound of your playing; those melodies were a vanity I never permitted in my heart. I much preferred the silence of your servitude—the way you moved through these halls with downcast eyes, anticipating my needs like the well-trained slave you were meant to be. You were never more beautiful to me than when you were quiet, broken, and entirely mine to command.
I have found a replacement. Her name is Elara. She is young, pliable, and her lineage suggests a fertility that you so pathetically lacked. She currently sleeps in our bed—your bed—unaware that she is merely the latest attempt to rectify your incompetence. I treat her with the same "noble" devotion I showed you, and the world continues to marvel at my bottomless patience for such fragile creatures.
Now, listen closely, for the air you breathe is a gift I have not yet decided to revoke.
Do not be tempted to pry into my affairs or cast your eyes back toward the life you fled. If you so much as breathe a question to the wind, or if I find your shadow darkening any path that leads back to me, the cost will not be yours alone to pay. I will start with your father; I will ensure his end is slow, calculated, and perfectly untraceable. And once he is gone, I will turn my gaze toward that pathetic little village he calls home. I have enough "blessings" in this greenhouse to ensure that not a single well runs clean, and not a single soul survives the night.
You were always a slow learner, but surely you understand the geography of your existence now. You are not free; you are simply on a longer leash. If you speak, you are a murderer. If you return, you are a plague.
Stay in your shadows. Remain dead. If you so much as cast a reflection in a window I might pass, I will finish what I started. I own the soil you walk on and the very air that hitches in your throat as you read this.

M doesn’t recognise the name but does recognise it as something Blen would think clever as he sees himself as a king surrounded by gold
M stops dead in her tracks, pale and shaking like a leaf, B looks over and having some knowledge of her past says “I am going to guess your ex-husband sends his regards?” She says “I need to get to my dad. We’re not finished here yet, but I need to get to him”
Despite her terror in the moment, she has a look of unbridled resolve on her face as she knows what needs to be done
K walks beside her, placing a hand on her shoulder in comfort
As they walk B hum a song from his childhood to himself and Skylla
They head for the exit inside The Jolly Jackalope, G carving out the hidden entrance so that B can fit through
The group have a pretty good feeling they will find Varik at the Blackthorn Estate
They try to figure out just how much time they have before the ritual is complete and between M and G the figure out they probably have about 12 hours (G strength 18, M Charisma 17, K wisdom 10, B nat one for 6 total(
B suggests they take a rest, M says she worries that if they wait any longer that more people might die that they could otherwise save, B says they won’t be able to save anyone if they all die
As they walk through town they don’t see a single person or any sign of life, just a lot of red flowers and a giant hole that the monster is presumed to have come out of, as well as a pile of gold and treasure at the bottom of it

Genevieve’s

Genevieve’s remains in a similar state to as they left it, they also see the Bards Rynette and Axyl as they walk in, M gives them a nod
B walks up to V with Skylla in his arms and holds her out to him saying he promised he would bring her back, V is lost for words as he takes his daughter in his arms
M walks straight to Syyrik, gives him a hug and drags him over to Draekos, as they walk Syyrik starts telling her about how his theory that the Thieves'’ Guild was ransacked was right and he saw all the treasure that was taken and would quite like to help himself to some
As they get to Draekos M says nothing and holds out the letter for them to read, Syyrik’s face drains of all colour and Draekos asks if she would like him to destroy it, she says no, he asks why she wants to keep it and she says “proof”
Draekos says he doesn’t think that’s going to fly, M says as soon as it’s safe to leave, she needs Syyrik to go get her dad and bring him back here
He asks if she’s sure they’re not watching him too then says that he could wear a disguise, she hands him The Breezy Mirage, but he says it’s ok, he’s got a disguise kit
M says if he’s really worried about it maybe she could send Sidrahl, Syyrik worries about trusting a stranger with that and that he was thinking Draekos could go, M says it’s too high profile because she knows Blen keeps a close eye on what he’s doing because he hates him so much
M says perhaps Syyrik and Sid can go, Syyrik agrees and M pushes the fan into his hand, insisting her take it
M says once the barrier is down they go, Syyrik says “Barrier?” M quickly explains about the ritual and how anyone who tries to leave will die if they don’t stop it
He asks if she’s seen the edge of town recently and says those little flowers have been encasing the edge of town and moving in and they probably need someone to go burn them back
M says their best bet is just finding Varik and snuffing the problem out at the source rather than treating the symptoms
