Genevieve’s
- K notices an odd-looking gentleman 4 or 5 blocks away, his figure is covered by a shadowy cloak that looks like the twilight sky with shimmering stars looking up at the sky. He looks to be completely out of place but doesn’t seem to be doing anything of note (16 perception) M doesn’t see shit (7 perception) K takes note but doesn’t mention or approach him
- B offloads the shab meat in the kitchen to Giuseppe who seems overwhelmed
- S runs up to B and starts telling him about everything that happened to her today
- Alaric stops by to asks if he can get them any drinks, B holds up 2 fingers, and G says she will also have a drink, M passes
- S leans over and asks if they’re still going to The Jolly Jackalope after dinner, M says that is the plan
- Corvin comes back in to meet the group looking a little disheveled, and out of breath
- C looks at B and says “I found her”
- Alaric comes by, putting two in front of B, one in front of B and goes to sneak one to M but C grabs it and downs it
- B asks where she is, C says “That’s the problem. I tried to sneak up on her, but she had broken into a home, and you know the little girl? The Lizard one?” M and B both say “Skylla?” C says “Yeah, Skylla. Well, I know what her nightmare demon looks like” He pauses and tries to stop himself from shaking
- C continues “So Lunae saw me, just as that thing was pulled out and the first thing I do is try to fight it, try to get it away from the girl, but Lunae saw me, took the girl and ran the other way, so I had to deal with this demon head on. I sent everything I had, my skeletons, my twiglings, I fired bolts and bolts, this thing just laughed at me. It moved inhumanly and began to give chase after it took out my skeletons and twiglings with one strike, so I ran, I teleported, and it kept pace. Some people, some regular townsfolk, they got in the way, but it didn’t kill them, it did something worse” He looks down, seemingly very upset, J comes over and puts her hand on his shoulder to comfort him and he says “It turned them into dolls? It threw something like a net or a sheet or something and it shrunk the townsfolk into these tiny, miniature dolls and it bent down, scooped up the doll and fixed it to its belt, so it was just dangling there, and it laughed”
- M says “Well that’s deeply unsettling” C agrees and says “I saw a guard or two go to try and fight it and the same thing happened, but then I swear I could hear Lunae call for it as it was coming towards me and it seemed to listen to her. I’ve never seen these things listen to anyone, but maybe they’ve been under her control this whole time, I don’t know”
- M asks if Lunae extracted it herself, C says it one of the big shadowlings that extracted it, but she was right behind it
- M pulls out the map that Moritha gave to her and asks C where he saw this happening and he points to somewhere only a few blocks from Genevieve’s. M takes out the blue crystal that is linked to S’s memory shard and holds it over the map and it lands in a similar spot to where he pointed
- C tells them that the nightmare demon was mostly bald apart from long, fiery yellow and orange hair that was coming out of the back of its scalp that went down to around it’s mid back, it had a red overcoat with red pauldrons and steel bracers, it wore white gloves, green pants and yellow boots. It had two long swords crossed across it’s back and two whip like appendages coming from its shoulder blades. Its face had eyes, a scar over one eye, half of its face was black, the other white and it could conjure the sheets seemingly from nothing
- B finishes his drinks and stands up to leave
- M is a little stunned and S asks “Could you imagine being turned into a doll? Forever?” M says, “hopefully it’s not forever” and S says, “But if no one saves you” Then turns to look at B who is leaving and asks if he’s going to go face this thing himself
- M decides to pack everything up and follow B, G also downs her drink and catches up
- J looks at C and says she’s going to stay with him because he might need the support and looks a little concerned
- S asks if she can come, M asks if that’s a good idea seeing as she doesn’t have her powers and S says she can pick up a weapon and asks J if she can have the bow M gave to her
- J looks to the group to see what they think, and S says she promises to stay back, the rest of the group agree to let her come and M hands S her dagger as well as the bow and arrows
- Alaric quickly grabs M’s arm to ask what’s going on, she tries to explain quickly saying “Nightmare creature that turns people into dolls that’s pulled from, you know Skylla, she lives across from here, yeah that was from her nightmares and Lunae pulled it from her head and it’s terrorising the town. Gotta go!” He replies saying there’s not a moments peace around lately and tells her to be careful, she gives him a nod and as she leaves, she yells to him to go and talk to Skylla’s family and let them know what’s going on and he says he’s on it
- Giuseppe is overwhelmed by meat
- B, K, G S and M head out to where C pointed
- M tells them about the pendulum dowsing and how the crystal she used it linked to the memory shard from S
- G is still picking Shab guts from her hair
- They hear commotion and stop to have a look, M casting pass without trace and the group are able to sneak down the alleyway (B nat 20 + 10, M 23 +10, G 14 + 10, K 12 + 10)
- The creature raises its right hand with an open palm and the swords telekinetically rise up from its back, pointing where he is looking, at a baker woman who is running away, but the swords both impale and kill her before disappearing and reappearing on the creature’s back
- B sees the old man run up to the creature and go to make a spell attack on it, but it throws out a sheet and turns him into a doll

Round 1
- B moves closer to it and casts thunderwave (Athletics 14) it doesn’t move, turns to look at him, tilting its head unnaturally to one side, smiling ear to ear and laughing maniacally (22 con save)
- The Clown Prince throws a sheet at B but he slices it in half before it can touch him (17 charisma save) and the sheet disappearates and B sees the creature is no longer in front of him
- M can see that the creature is now right behind B, decides to sneak up on it and try to grab the dolls from its belt but fails (14 Sleight of Hand + 1 from Auspicious warning) then uses Message to let B know it is now behind him
- B turns, casting Zaolu’s edge and swinging his sword at it and hitting with a nat 20, aiming for the appendages coming from its back, it tries to teleport away and throw up illusory copies of itself, but B mows throw all of them and cleaves into it, causing it to kick off of B to try and get away
- G Moves behind it, activates her Lunar Transformation and leaps onto it's back, digging her claws in (21 Athletics) but as she is raking her claws down its back, it swings its fleshy whip bits at her, grabbing her by her ankles and hanging her upside down away from its body (2 dex save)
- S tries to fire an arrow at it but misses with a 7
- B calls out to K and tells her to leave it alive, M realises he’s having the same thought as her
- K tries to reach into the wound with chill does but isn’t able to (6 arcana) and it warps to beside her and laughs in her ear doing 15 damage (11 int save)
Round 2
- The Clown Prince throws a sheet at M and she rolls out of the way, dodging it (19 charisma save) then it materialises the swords in front of it and swings at B and G (10 & nat 1 dex save) dealing them 8 & 9 damage respectively
- M politely asks the creature to put G down (nat 1 persuasion) and it swings a sword at her but she back handsprings out of the way (23 dex save)
- B activates Dragon Fear giving him +1 to charisma, points his sword at the creature and says “You will tell us where your mistress took the child, you will tell me everything I ask you, so help me gods, I will destroy you if you don’t” (18 intimidation) it drops G who lands without injury (24 strength save) then it laughs manically, rotating its head 360 degrees and it’s eyes flare for a moment
- G swings at it with her claws, hitting with 21 and is tries to teleport away but she is able to close the distance with it as it tries to grab a nearby townsfolk to throw at her, who she catches and puts safely down before digging her claws into its chest (intelligence save 16)
- G is able to see that the creature isn’t bleeding and inside its wounds are shades of dark teal and purple
- S tries to get up close to grab the dolls from its belt but fails (8 sleight of hand) and it turns to throw a sheet at her, almost catching her if not for M calling out to her using Auspicious Warning, causing her to step aside (13 charisma save + 3)
- K casts ice knife at it, missing with 14 and it makes the dex saving throw with 21 and doesn’t take any damage
Round 3
- The creature throws a sheet towards K who is able to dodge out of the way (charisma save 18) Then swings its sword and K and M hitting both (7 & 11 dex saves) dealing 9 & 4 damage respectively
- M is getting sick of its shit, she’s annoyed that it cut her shirt and that she’s even having to do all this and plunges The Ash Song into it, hitting with a nat 20 as the flames blaze bright along the blade and she hears Korbus in her head saying “Good one, kiddo”
- The creature throws out more sheets at everyone, but G fails to avoid it (nat 1 charisma save) and is turned into a doll

- M says to Korbus that the plan was not to kill it yet, he asks if he should stop the flames and M says they wanted to try get some information out of it to which Korbus responds “Good luck, I mean, look at that thing”
Questioning The Clown Prince
- The Clown Prince is making a siren-like shriek as the flames from The Ash Song burn it from the inside and Korbus asks “You think you’re going to get anything out of this monster?” M replies, “Maybe not out of its face, but I can get it out of its head” and the flames subside
- M pulls out the Ash Song and slices the back of its knees causing it to fall to its knees as it cackles in pain and she notices it doesn’t seem to breathe
- M calls B over to help restrain the creature, he places his foot on what is left of its chest, and he can feel it trying to teleport out from under him but that it’s got no power left to do so
- M casts detect thoughts and immediately tries to probe deeper but the creature refuses her entry (16 wis save)
- M can hear it cackling in her head and repeating “you’ll never find the girl” and “I’ll be back”
- B puts more weight onto the foot on its chest and growls at it, saying “Where is the child” (17 intimidation)
- M hears it think “The child is deep and dark, the child is deep and dark. You’re never going to find her. I’ll be back” and relays this to the group adding that it sounds like underground
- M hears the creature very loud and almost as though its right by her ear “Trust me, I’ll be back” and laughs maniacally
- B tells M to ask if it will tell them how to change the dolls back, M turns to the creature and says “Be a doll, pun intended...” it lets out a crazed laugh, M continues “And tell us how to get our friends back”
- M hears it think “Your friends, your friends, your friends are mine, they’ll never be yours again, not while I’m around.”
- M says, “Are you going to give us anything useful or should I continue burning you from the inside out?” it thinks “What do you want? I’ll trade you a butcher, or do you want a candlestick maker? I also have an old man, and a dwarven lady, of sorts”
- M says, “How about I take all of them, and your life, sound good?” it thinks “You can, like I said, I’ll be back”
- M realises that as it’s been in the world and hearing people talk its speech has been improving and it is learning from the world around it
- The Group realise that they’re not going to be able to get anything directly out of it, but they may be able to trick it into giving them information and remember that it is borne of a child's brain
- M says, “I would love to play dolls with you, but I don’t know the rules, would you care to elaborate?”
- It turns its head to look at M for the first time and says “Oh it is such a fun game, do you know how many of us are playing? Well, I would say, hmm how many? At least 2 or 3 if you include myself. Such a game! We have multiple lives, if mother gives it to us. But don’t read the book, don’t read the book, don’t read the book, that’s mother’s book, that’s mother’s book, don‘t read mother’s book, it gives all the secrets away”
- M feels the spell end and holds The Ash Song to its throat and says “Any last words?” it says “Alakazee!” and throws one last sheet up as M stabs it in the throat, leaving the sheet to harmlessly fall over her as the blue flame from The Ash Song burns the creature until it disappears into shadowy wisps
- Everyone else can see all of the dolls poof back into people where ever they were lying
- The Old Man sees B and gives him a big smile
- The people who were fastened to its belt appear in a pile beside where the creature was
- M takes the sheet from her head and examines it noting that it’s luxurious and feels magical. K also has a look at it, and figures it’s probably a million thread count (arcana 3) B knows there no such thing as a million thread count and figures it’s probably more like 100,000 thread count (arcana 4) and M gets the impression that it’s some kind of dream material, something like dream silk that has some unique qualities but she’d need to research more to know fully, she tucks it into her pocket to take to Moritha
Regrouping
- The group hear slow clapping as they turn to see the strange man from earlier walking towards them and he says “Wow, that was in interesting fight, was almost going to step in there”
- M says, “And you are?” He replies, “The name is Jazen Milano, the roguishly handsome adventurer, displaced in space and time” and he bows
- M offers him a reluctant curtsy and B throws a piece of debris at him, which he teleports out of the way of, this annoys B
- Jazen continues “You see, I showed up when the giant shark monsters showed up, did you see those things?” K asks if he came through the portal too, he says “Yeah, I didn’t really know that was going to happen, had to kill about 3 or 4 myself, wasn’t a fan” K replies “Yeah, no those things suck” Jazen says they killed all three of his familiars and lets out a big sigh and bemoans that it’s going to take ages for him to get all the ingredients to summon them all back
- Jazen reaches to his right, his hand disappearing into thin air before reappearing with a cold drink and takes a sip from it then asks “So, what’s going on here?”
- M says she’s supposed to be on stage and K asks, “If you’re from the future doesn’t that mean we succeed?” M recalls that he said, “Displaced in space and time” and Jazen says “Well, I wouldn’t say I’m from the future, I’m from a different... yeah” Trailing off as he hears M repeat his words
- Jazen asks if anyone knows where the portal is and M says they destroyed it and M and K both say it was the only way to stop more things from coming through, Jazen says that sucks and K says “yeah sorry about that”
- M says, “I may know someone who could help you, potentially” and he says, “I’ll be fine on my own, but if I do see you guys around again, can you not destroy the portals I need to get home?”
- M and K both say that they didn’t know anyone needed it open and that it was spewing out water and shabs into the center of town and he comments that he also calls them shabs
- B claps sarcastically and Jazen tells K her likes her before saying he’s not sure about the rest of them and stets that he has to go find a way to open the portal again, or find a different one
- He says that where he came from was a desert and that has an astral space that provides them with water, like an oasis and he wandered a bit too close to that portal, so he got sucked into that one and then came through another portal to be here
- Jazen asks where the nearest portal is, and everyone says they have no idea
- K asks him if he’s talking about a portal to the feywild and he says he has no idea what that is then asks people if have their “essences” and gets confused looks in return
- He wishes everyone farewell and vanishes in a puff of smoke
- K asks “what if it’s not a circle?” and Jazen shouts down from a nearby rooftop and says “It will be a magic circle” and K asks how they will know if it’s a magic circle specifically, M yells at her to stop talking to him and B asks why they are entertaining “this idiot”
- Jazen shouts down to K asking her what her name is, and she returns only silence before B yells at him to go away, and Jazen says “Touchy! I’m leaving!”
- M pulls out the map and crystal to see if anything has changed and it is pointing very close to where they are
- M casts detect thoughts and does a quick lap around the block, scanning through thoughts to see if there is anyone nearby that they can’t see, but only picks up the thoughts of the townsfolk that were captured and the old man thinking “Those are some nice buttocks”
- M returns to the group and says “It said Skylla was “deep and dark” which, to me, says underground, the memory shard is somewhere near here, and this is near to where Corvin saw Lunae. I think, whoever has Sylvara’s memory crystal, and I’m willing to put money on it being Lunae, is currently under us, somewhere”
- G asks if she should start digging or if they should fine a safe route
- M gets lost in her thoughts and starts to spiral when she hears Korbus in her mind, who says, “Pray tonight, come to the palace” M jump and says she forgot he was there, He continues “Hopefully you can make it to me. Remember, I got a gift for you kiddo, and we can talk, you might need to talk” M says she will do her best
- M wonders what the fuck they’re supposed to do, because she is spent and doesn’t know what the best move is now. Korbus says to her “Think of why you’ve been pulled away from your plans, not once, but twice today, and it wasn’t by Nekros. Why was Lunae stringing your team along? Distracting your team? What strategy is she playing at? What is Nekros playing at? They don’t mind you chasing Zalthea and Lunae around” M says aloud “They are trying to wear us down, they want us exhausted, and it’s working”
- S says, “Are you saying that to get Nekros, we have to let people die?” M replies “I think that’s the conclusion that they want us to come to, I think we need to get more people on our side”
- B hears something almost like someone smacking on an old TV and Zaolu’s voice saying “Reception on here is terrible! Boy, Are you there?” B responds to say that he is
- Zaolu says “Just wanted to say, good fucking hit boy! You did so good there, proud of you!” B says he appreciates it then Zaolu says “Also, I wasn’t there for the last fight, but you used the crucible, thank god! I worked so hard on that thing!” B says “It did come in handy. I will admit, I had my doubts at first”
- Zaolu says “Did you notice it got a kill? It finished off one those things!” B says “I did, Zaolu. Zaolu I think we have some more important things to talk about right now” Zaolu responds “Ah, right, this business. So, we’re going to save that girl, yes?”
- B says “If it’s the last thing I do, I will not let that child die” Zaolu says “If you’re able to make it better, we can maybe put some kind of device together that’s a little better than that crystal” Referring to M and the pendulum dowsing. “If you can get to me, we can make one, together. My workshop is yours” B says he will see him later this evening
- M turns to B and K and tells them to ask their gods to send their other champions to Ravenswood if they can, then turns to G as well and says to ask if there’s anything they can do to aid in their arrival
- B gets pensive, having an idea forming in his head and then says “We said we needed more help, right? Well, I think we have plenty of people around here who could be of some help, we just need to muster up our forces” M suggests they make a trip to the adventurers' guild and the arena to try and recruit some people there and that she was going to try talk to Nyx and see if she could get him and his crew to help out too
- B says that he has helped to train people before and having people be at least capable of defending themselves would be of benefit. M adds that just having more people on the lookout and able to report back to them would also be a huge help
- M looks to B and says “I know you want to find Skylla; I don’t think they’re going to kill her. She has one of the gods on her side” G, K and S are hearing of this for the first time as M says it. “She is the champion of one of the gods, she is not on her own” S asks, “Is that how she did the whammy thing the other day?” M says yes.
- M continues “I think out time would be better spent regaining our energy” B quietly comments that a child shouldn’t have to be involved in something like this, M agrees.
- B sheaths his sword and says “Tomorrow, Lunae dies”
- M quickly pops over to the old man and says that he should come by Genevieve’s to see them later, he doesn’t hear her, and she repeats “Come by Genevieve’s” He replies “Oh, just you and me huh?” M rolls her eyes, pats him on the head and turns to leave. He says he’ll be there, and everyone starts to head back.
At Genevieve’s
- The group arrive back at Genevieve’s to see Alaric standing beside a Lizardfolk man who he introduces as Varuug, Skylla’s father. He looks tired and dishevelled, beyond what would be expected given the circumstances, M easily recognises the weary face of a solo dad.
- Varuug looks to everyone and says “I hear you are going to help my daughter” they affirm, Varuug continues saying that if it wasn’t for Alaric he’d still be knocked out on the floor. M looks to Alaric and gives him a quick, grateful nod, he gives a timid smile and says he did what he could.
- Varuug asks if they have any leads, M says they do. He pounds the base of his spear into the floor and says “Then we go” M explains that going now wouldn’t be the best idea and that they need more preparation and people if they want to be successful
- Varuug gives everyone a thorough once over and sees the state of everyone and says, “You fought the beast?” They all nod and he continues “That clown” M asks if she’s not a fan of clowns then and Varuug says she hates them, ever since seeing a troupe of jesters in the capitol that freaked her out. M knows the jesters of which he speaks and says she can’t blame her.
- Varuug sets himself at ease, lowering his spear and saying he was never much of a melee fighter anyway
- M looks at him and says “So, this is going to sound utterly mad, and if you don’t believe me, I completely understand, but the 4 of us and your daughter are champions of a forgotten pantheon of gods, and that’s why she’s been targeted”
- Varuug looks at the group with disbelief and says, “You’re telling me, the 4 of you are champions of the gods?” M says they’ve only recently found that out themselves and Varuug continues “So you’re saying these gods gave you special powers and trinkets.” M nods and Varuug seems relieved and says “Thank God it’s not just me! I’ve been able to hear people while they’re sleeping, it’s crazy!”
- M reaches out and touches his hand and feels the telltale buzzing of a champion.
- Varuug asks if everyone else has the dream dragon too, M says her god is a Minotaur and Varuug goes through the group asking everyone about their god then says “So none of you have the same god? And Skylla has a different god, and I have a different god? So that’s 6 different gods”
- M mentions that there is also Jineyih and quickly messages J to tell her they’ve found another champion and she and C join the group
- Varuug says “Mine is Xiranatos, what’s yours?” and M perks up, saying “Mine is Korbus and he told me that Xiranatos would be the one to ask a particular question”
- Varuug says “He is a tricky god, he doesn’t talk to me often, probably because I can easily talk to him, I have dream kind of powers”
- Varuug asks what domains the gods govern over and says that Xiranatos is the god of dreams and nightmares, sleep, secrets of untold truths, he’s also in charge of the fey” The group take turns sharing theirs and Varuug remembers that Xiranatos is also the god of greed.
- M reaches into her bag and pulls out the sketch of the Solvexis Circle and explains what they know about it and asks if he could try to talk to Xiranatos about it next time he gets the chance
- M asks if he knows what god Skylla has and he says her god is Felnara, who is the god of love, happiness, desire, pleasure, agriculture and harvest, but also, I’m getting a very big sense that she is demonic” M is taking notes
- M says “Did you know that the head of the panteon is a giant sea otter?” V says “You’re kidding? I’d head of the name of the head of the pantheon, but I did not know that he was a giant sea otter”
- V says he sees that they have a lot to discuss and not a lot of time to get to it and asks if they should reconvene tomorrow, M says that sounds like a good idea and that she has plans in the morning but will be available at noon
- V says “I’m going to set my affairs right and have the house shut down for a day” M asks if he needs somewhere to say and Alaric states that he thinks there are still some rooms available.
- M jokes that they might need to start bunking together if they run out of room and Alaric says, “You could stay at my house.” To which M responds, “Me or Varuug?” Alaric gets flustered and says “Yeah, I mean, if you want. I would love that. I mean, I would like that”
- V looks at the two of them and says “Yeah, I’ll stay here. You two elves can do your thing”
- M gets herself ready to do her evening performance and turns to the group, asking if she looks alright and the door bursts open as the old man bounds in and says “Girl, you look great!”
- V directs her to fix her hair, and she pulls out a little hand mirror to see what is out of place and he also lets her know that there is a cut in her shirt which she quickly fixes with mending, and he comments that she is “A bag of tricks”
- M gets on stage, uses Song of rest and nails the performance despite being exhausted and worn down (performance 28, 13, & 25) and at the end Alaric comes over and hands her 165g in tips
- While M is on stage V speaks to G and B and says “Do you two think that so many of us champions in one place is a bad thing? Do you think because so many of us are together, we’re attracting trouble?” B replies “I feel like trouble was already here. Perhaps the fact that the trouble is here is why we were all drawn here”
- V says “I don’t like the shadows of this town; they seem darker than normal”
- K heals for 4 + 1, G for 8 + 5, and B for 7 + 2
