Leaving The Silver Hourglass

As they leave, M asks X to send someone to find them if Zalthea shows up, she agrees

Regrouping at Genevieve’s

See a black feathered Kenku talking to Gen and a little gnomish family with their kids speaking to Alaric
C and Althea come back and report to the group what they found, C says there wasn’t a lot of footprints
M asks about the others, if they’ve gone to bed already, C seems a little anxious and says they’re not there’re, Althea asks where they could have gone and M says S wanted to go to The Jolly Jackalope, C facepalms and offers to join Althea to go find them
M says she had been wanting to head there at some point anyway, so she’ll join them, K and G say they’ll also join
C, G, M and K head to The Jolly jackalope, see Kael outside who hails them over

The Jolly Jackalope

S is inside talking to a Half Elf. Alya is watching them, and J is talking to Todd, looking a little upset
G walks over to S and sees the very tall, lanky half elf with curly brown hair enthusiastically telling S about stuff he did at his school and various academic stories, they seem to be enjoying themselves a lot, he keeps handing her drinks
S is the happiest they’ve ever seen her
G says “Hey, Sylvara, what you up to?” S downs her glass and says things are going great and introduces the half elf as Joey Swiftarrow, a name S is amused by and Joey mumbles he made it up himself
Joey says he had never seen a Fairy before and said he wanted to ask S about herself, and they’ve been talking about research and nerdy things
G gets a weird vibe from him (insight 3) M does a quick vibe check as she walks by (16 insight) and gets the impression he’s unpredictable but maybe not in a bad way, M messages G to share that
Joey excuses himself saying he should be calling it a night, tells S he’d like to meet her again tomorrow night, S says she doesn’t know what her plans are, but she’ll do what she can, and he looks excited, gets up, pushes his stool in and zooms off
Alya gets up now that she doesn’t need to watch S and asks if everyone is ok for her to head back to The Radiant Halls, M quickly updates her on what they’ve learned and asks if they could meet them again in the morning so they can help try to track down Lunae while she takes S to The Enchanted Trinket, she agrees and heads out, linking arms with Kael, who seems surprised and unimpressed by this and they leave
J is talking to Todd and seems to be calling him out, he keeps urging her to lower her voice, but she keeps grilling him
Todd asks if they can talk about it somewhere else and M walks up, putting a hand on J and saying she understands her frustration and gives Todd a nod. Telling him “She has a point” J collects herself and says, “we will talk again later” and walks outside to join C (M persuasion 18)
M smiles at Todd and says she was hoping to have a word with him at some point, he shrugs and asks what he can do for her
M asks in Thieves’ Cant to ask if he could get her into the thieves’ guild, he asks if she means tonight and she says it doesn’t have to be, he says he can show her but not to tell anyone about what they have going on there, M nods
He pinches the bridge of his nose and says he’ll get her in front of the people she needs to talk to and to give him a couple days
M then bats her eyelashes at him and says “Look, I know it’s kind of complicated, given your relationship to the place, but if you have anything that you could let us know, it seems there are many lives at stake, and I would really appreciate any information you could spare” (19 persuasion)
Todd looks her in the eyes, his demeanour changing to mirror the seriousness of the situation and says “That guy, I still don’t know his name, my brothers the one who deals with him, but he’s been here twice before, last week and a couple weeks ago. At first, I thought he was scouting you know, the scum and maybe trying to recruit some people. You know, sometimes unsavoury folk go where the money is, and I was half right, I think. That girl, that dame he was with, you know uh, the scary one” M asks if he means Lunae. He mentally records that and continues “Yeah, Lunae. She’s kinda like his dark horse. She, on her first night, took on every challenge the pit had” M asks if he does mean Lunae or Zalthea, Minotaur or Elf, he clarifies he means Lunae, calling her “scary lady number 1”
Todd says “The minotaur came by once, scary yes, but I’ve seen the demon woman do her things. One thing I noticed, Lunae had this book with her and when she wasn’t participating and her little minions were doing their jobs, she would be furiously writing in the book”
G remembers seeing her writing in the book when the nightmare creatures were pulled from K and B’s heads (22 history) and mentions it offhandedly, no one else remembers (K 6, M 7, B 8) and M tells her she wants to go over that more later
M says the sooner her can get her in with the guild the better, that he knows where to find her and if they have any events coming up and need a bard to let her know. He perks up and says “Oh, yeah! Actually, we have a morning show in a few days, were you interested in playing?” M says she currently doesn’t have any plans, so unless something else comes up she should be good to. Todd says he’ll tell the other talent they’re a backup in case M can’t show up. M says that sounds good and Todd says “That’s really good news. I’m hoping to have a good crowd”
The group say goodbye to Todd and head outside to join J and C
C says, “let’s go back, I don’t like this place” and eyes Todd

Genevieve’s

S seems bubbly and heads off to her own room
C and J head off for the night and M says, “keep it down alright” C winks and J looks unamused and gives him a little smack. M gives her a smile and J smiles back at the group as they leave
B is sitting at the bar drinking and his mage hand is sitting on a stool next to him
M quickly ducks into the kitchen to talk to Gen, letting her know that she has offered her bardic services over at the Jolly Jackalope and The Iron Pit as a way of getting in good with them, earning trust and gathering information, but she won’t let that come before her obligations here. Gen says that’s fine
M says goodnight to Alaric who is clearing the glasses from the bar, and he lifts a hand to wave goodnight, spilling a bit of what was inside. M uses prestidigitation to clean it up for him, he smiles and nods, saying goodnight and M heads to her room to put 4 hours into translating Ill Fated Word before heading to bed
Everyone turns in for the night

Lunae and Zalthea Meet Somewhere outside Ravenswood

Lunae asks Zalthea why she killed the farmer, Zalthea says “I couldn’t find that fucking rabbit, I’ve been looking for it for weeks. Every time I think I’m on its trail, it leads me somewhere else. And you know what, I was hungry, I heard voices, and you know what, fuck ‘em, I killed them, ok?”
Lunae responds “I needed the body! You completely took apart the things I could have used!” Zalthea shrugs and says “Well, I can do what I want Lunae” and they part ways

Genevieve's

G wakes up, does some stretches, gets ready and heads downstairs to wait for the others and get something to eat
K wakes up, gets her spells ready for the day then heads up to join the others
M takes a moment to get ready and goes over her notes and journal, noting down everything that S had told them about herself and the research she was doing and everything they have since learned about the gods so that she has some information she can access even if her memories are gone, then heads into the main area to get some tea
B gets up and checks the crucible and sees the lyre string it was working on has gone from silver to a turquoise/teal and takes it to head upstairs to join the rest
B hands the Zolium Lyre String to M whose eyes light up as she grabs it and immediately puts it back in her lyre
B says he’s not doing the rest of the strings, M says she can’t just have one
The group discus their plans for the morning, M says she would like to go to The Enchanted Trinket with S and that she thinks it would be a good idea for as many people as possible to go and continue where Althea and C left off in tracking down Lunae and trying to get rid of her.
As they are discussing things, Garrin bursts in out of breath, B uses mage hand to give him a glass of water which he gulps down before telling the group that Zalthea is out the baths
B stands up, grabbing his sword and says he knows what he is doing today. M says as much as she wants Zalthea to be taken care of, if there is a choice between taking out Lunae or Zalthea first, she feels getting rid of Lunae would have the biggest impact on the plans and that their window to track her down based on the information gathered last night might be closing very fast, whereas they have a much better idea where Zalthea would be at a later date
G agrees that they should go for Zalthea. B says that Zalthea shouldn’t take long and that once they’ve done that, he will turn his sights to trying to find Lunae and seeing if they can take them both down in the same day
G asks Garrin if Zalthea is with anyone, he says that she burst in, threw the girl at the door into the wall, that she’s fine but Zalthea went to find X and broke the rules by not removing her armour and weapons before entering, the group all look increasingly concerned
J puts a hand on B and asks if it would be beneficial to have a scout on the roof just in case Lunae also shows up, B says as much as he doesn’t want to put her in danger, he thinks that would be helpful, C says he will go with her
M asks J what her preferred weapon is, J says she likes to fight with a glaive, M asks if either of them are good with a bow, C says he’s got magic and J says she can use a bow
M takes her Shortbow of Accuracy, the quiver of silver arrows and one of the Healing Arrows and hands them to J
M says she would still like to go to the magic shop with S, because finding out what’s going on with S would be beneficial and because she has questions of her own, B puts a hand on her shoulder and says “we’ve got this”
M asks Gen if she can let the paladins know what’s going on at the baths when they arrive, she agrees
They agree to meet back at Genevieve’s around midday
M gives G B and J bardic inspiration
M rolls a 2 for disguise self with Breezy Mirage
Garrin is frightened and unsure of what to do, M explains the plan and says, “We don’t want to put you in danger, but it could lessen the danger on Gwinri and the others if it was you that handed her the spiked drink” (28 persuasion)
Garrin says “You need me? I can help?” M responds “I think you can, yeah, and you won’t be alone” he says “If you guys think that I can help, I’ll do it! For Gwinri”
M and S leave for The Enchanted Trinket, B, G, K, C and J head to The Silver Hourglass Bathhouse & Spa with Garrin

The Silver Hourglass Bathhouse & Spa

J is able to get up on the roof of the bathhouse and C takes to the roof of the building opposite and keep watch, not seeing much as it is early in the morning and not many people are out and about yet
B stops at the door to listen for any signs of a commotion, he hears the sounds of crashing, glasses breaking and loud guttural groans
B remembers he also has an Elixir of Deep Slumber just in case they can’t get to X for the one that was given to her by M
B leads the way up the stairs, seeing the wall to his right is cracked and dented in a vague body shape, surmising that was where the attendant was thrown into the wall
As they continue in, they can tell that there are some staff hiding behind the bar
B draws his sword and relays the info he has to the rest of the group and cautiously enters the room
He sees a lot of broken glass and broken tables in a path leading to the staircase up to The Hourglass Room
The desk has been split in two and covered in blood, behind the desk are the twins Lianis and Taryth, one cradling the other and crying
The Human man guarding the staircase has been smashed into the wall and is bleeding profusely
B taps K on the shoulder and sends her to check on the man while he heads over to the twins
B looks at the injured girl and has no idea what is going on (nat 1 medicine) but feeling a sense of inspiration takes another look (nat 20 medicine) and reaches into his paladinic training, uses lay on hands, restoring her to full health but remains unconscious
The other girl looks up at him, no longer crying and thanks him, he puts his fingers to his lips to shh her and asks where Zalthea is now. The girl says, “She went on a rampage and is looking for Lady Xeranova” B asks where exactly she is and the girl nods to the stairs and says “Her usual room” which he knows to be the east room
K goes to look at the guy in the wall and G follows, working together they are able to pull him out of the wall and can see that he is on deaths door and K is able to stablise him (23 medicine) long enough for B to join them and use lay on hands to heal him for 1 hp
Garrin goes to help move the unconscious girl to behind the bar where the rest of the staff are sheltering and starts mixing up a drink for Zalthea
B gives him The Elixir of Deep Slumber and says “I want you to make whatever the minotaur's favourite drink is” Garrin says he’s already on it and adds the potion to the drink
As the group finish tending to the guard, Garrin finishes mixing the drink and asks what now, B asks who would normally bring her her drink. Garrin gulps and says that would be him
B says “I have an idea, if I can goad her into thinking it’s going to be a fight, she’s going to be too preoccupied with that idea. Garrin will bring up two drinks, one for me and one for her and I will pull some bullshit about it being a whole honour bound thing where I come from, fighters have a drink before battle, we trick her into drinking it and I murder this bitch. Is everybody good with this? And if she doesn’t, I still just beat the shit out of her either way” he tells G and K to wait outside the room, and they decide on “applesauce” as the go phrase if he needs backup
They hear an extremely loud crack of thunder coming from above B says they need to do this now
B turns to Garrin again and instructs him to bring up her drink and for him, something plain and not remotely interesting for him and Garrin says he will bring his in a clear cup
B puts his sword back in its sheath and checks everyone is ready before heading upstairs following bloody hoof prints
B can see the door to the east is wide open and it looks like there’s an unnatural darkness coming from the room and recognises this as not one of the usual magical effects in the room
He stops and tells the others to wait outside the door and says he is going to call her out of the room instead of trying to enter and face the unknown magical effects in there
B tells Garrin to stick with him and enters The Hourglass Room
B shouts across the room “Zalthea, I know you’re in there! I challenge you to come meet me in an honourable duel”
another crack of thunder can be heard accompanied by a pained cry from X before Zalthea ducks through the door and stands upright to face B saying “You?! Challenge me to an honourable duel?” B responds “Aye, you and me. If I win you will leave this place, if you win you may have my head” She grins at him and says “You know, I could go for another kill”
Zalthea pounds her fists together and sparks can be seen emanating from her fur
B meets her energy by readying his Thunderwave spell
Zalthea walks towards him and asks when they start as she wiggles her fingers, letting the electricity dance between them
B says, “In my village, before any fight between two warriors, we have a little tradition, and I would like to see if you would join me in it” and gestures towards Garrin holding the drinks (23 persuasion)
The electricity seems to travel up her arms and seems to settle within her fur and she says “Alright" and walks up to B
B gestures to Garrin to walk forwards looking quite scared of Zalthea and B his drink, before then walking over to Zalthea and handing her hers, she takes the drink with her right hand, reaching across her body to do so and as he does, grabs Garrin by the throat with her left and looks at B
B looks her in the eyes and says “I thought you had honour. Your fight is with me, not with him, and if you kill him, well I guess our agreement will be broken”
Zalthea drops Garrin who looks slightly injured and he scurries back against the wall
Zalthea returns Bs gaze and raises her glass, he does the same and then drinks it, she follows suit

B uses dragon fear, Zalthea rolls a 16 wisdom save and passes, grinning at his attempt to frighten her, B gets the impression it wouldn’t have any effect on her regardless (15 investigation)
B draws his sword and moves to attack Zalthea hits for 20 dealing 12 slashing, hitting a second time with 23 and dealing another 12 slashing
Zalthea snaps her fingers, pointing behind her into the room, and then at B, the storm cloud in the next room moves in and hits Garrin and B for 11 thunder damage B fails con save 8 + 5 from bardic and Garrin also fails with an 8, B uses a reaction to use adamantine Bulwark, negating the damage, Garrin is knocked out and both are deafened for a minute

G and K rush in
B casts Zaolu’s edge on his silver sword, doesn’t hear Zaolu (11 religion) misses with a 16, swings again, hitting with 22 and dealing 9 slashing + 3 radiant
K Grabs Garrin and drags him out of the room, seeing he’s stable
Zalthea rolls a 6, recharging her ability, and zapping both B and G, B saving with a 17 con, G with a 12 + 7 con save and take 10 damage and aren’t deafened
G use Lunar Transformation, her bracers glow and she gets a faint sense of approval (religion 12) swinging at Zalthea with her claws, missing with 13, swinging again and hitting with a 21 and dealing 5 slashing. G takes 4 lightning damage as she hits

Round 3

B hits with a 22 and dealing 13 damage then taking 4 lightning damage as he hits, swings again, missing with a 13
K walks back into the room and wildshapes into the Sporebound bone Mammoth and hears the voice of Kalista saying “very nice, send this one to me and we can interrogate her together” K thanks her for the boon and goes to attack her with her tusks hitting with a nat 20 dealing 25 damage and reducing Zalthea’s armour class by one until her next turn and K takes 1 lightning damage
Zalthea does not recharge her attack, her eyes glow and she screams, going to punch B and hitting with a nat 20 and dealing 40 damage, using his reaction to negates 15, Zalthea hits again with a 23, dealing 11 damage and hits him a third time hitting with a 21 and dealing 8 damage
G uses Enlarge Form and attacks, missing with an 11then missing again with a 12, uses action surge to swing again, hitting for 26 dealing, hitting again for 23 and dealing 14 damage

Round 4

B swings, missing with 10, swinging again and hitting with a nat 20 and dealing 14 damage and cleaving her head off, lightning emanating from her neck stump as shadowy tendrils look as though they are crawling from her body before fading

Post Combat

B Picks up her head by the horns and takes it to the window, smashing it and letting out a triumphant roar
K sees a tall, cloaked figure standing behind one of the statues, it’s face obscured but the eyes glowing faintly grey with a dark shadowy essence trailing behind. He is holding an ornate obsidian staff etched with runes much akin to the ones that they could not translate before. He points at the lifeless body of Zalthea and looks at K, giving her a soft smile, disappears in a flurry of spectral ravens and K can see her spirit manifest and get ripped through the ceiling as the figure disappears
Kalista chimes in and says, “I didn’t think he would be here” K asks who that was, Kalista says it was the god of Death Thalarion, who is something like her stepson, more of a demigod, he shepherds souls for her
K asks how she should go about meeting with her again, Kalista says “do your best to contact me, if my prison doesn’t block your call, we will interrogate this one together. I’ll have a special prison set up for this one”
K’s connection to Kalista severs and K feels that she is very pleased
Garrin comes to looks at G in her spectral wolf form and goes “whoa, that’s crazy” and G drops the form
Garrin looks over to K in her mammoth form and asks if she in on their side, K nods and Garrin looks dubious and then says “Well, anyone, I’m fucking psyched that you killed her”
Garrin asks if anyone has checked on X and B says that was what he was about to do and heads in
B sees X on the bed with large wounds both burned and bleeding, her hand is broken and jammed into the bed frame but is still conscious and in considerable pain
B rushes over and K drops her mammoth form and rushes in
On the wall is “bitch” and other obscenities written in X’s blood
B gently removes her hand and uses lay on hands, healing her for 16 and asks, “my lady, are you alright?” X breathes a sigh of relief and opens one eye saying, “don’t worry I won’t charm you” attempting to muster a playful tone but is unable to
K comes up to the bed side and casts healing word at second level and heals her for 8
B picks her up in a bridal carry and X says, “Oh darling, could you please take me to my room” B says, “I will drop you” X replies, “What was that?” B says “Nothing” She says “That’s what I thought”
Garrin shows them to her room which is downstairs from the main room and underneath the staircase where there is a secret door that Garrin shows them how to operate
Her room is lush and lavish, so much fancier than anything else in the bathhouse
B gently lays her down on her bed, X leans in to give him a kiss on the cheek, which he allows, and she thanks her
B takes her hand in his and asks, “My lady, why did she attack you?” she replies “I may have chosen the wrong people to trust, but I thought it was worth a shot. I went to one of the...” The next words out of her mouth are laced with disgust “... noble houses in town. I knew I should have gone to Draekos at Ravenswood Bluff. But I chose one of the two in town, and I chose wrong, seems like they were in league with Nekros and Zalthea” B’s grip tightens slightly as he asks which house he went to
Meanwhile, across town, M is thinking how she hopes the Blackthorns aren’t involved with all this
X says “I went to speak with Lord Harren Blackthorn to ask for help, and they promised that they would help. Next thing I know I am forcefully attacked and tortured” X looks at everyone in the room and says “I am very very grateful that you came to save me” and looks to Garrin specifically “If you want a new position, it’s yours” he responds “We can talk later about that”
B reassuringly caresses the back of her hand and says, “You have my word, the Blackthorns will pay” X looks at him with sincerity and says “Do not trust a single one of them” B meets her gaze and says, “There will be no words, only actions” and X smiles
B casts mage hand to tuck her in and K tells her to look after herself, X says she’ll be fine tomorrow, before instructed the mage hand to tuck her in a little more on her side
Garrin leads the group back through the baths and B retrieves the head of Zalthea
They see the staff starting to clean up a bit but looking unsure about what’s going on, B raises his hand and tells them all that the bathhouse is closed today and they should return to their loved ones and reminding them to stay vigilant and stay safe
C and J walk in, and C says, “What the hell happened here” J says “I think they one”
B shoves Zalthea’s head into C’s hands and tells him to hold it for him. C first looks shocked, before getting a wicked smile and looks at B, asking if he did this, B says he did what had to be done, C approves and tosses the head back saying “One to go, and then it’s just the big man”
B says “All of their blood shall be spilt; their crimes are unforgivable”
Althea, Kael and Alya come up the stairs to join them, Alya immediately running over to the staff, checking on everyone and healing them as needed
Kael walks to the group and asks if they’re ok, B holds up the head and says “We accomplished our mission”
Althea asks if any of them require healing and B says, “Please dear god yes” and Kael and Althea start to tend to the wounds of the group, healing them all to full
