Reputation paints Rudiger von Neuen as a cold, ruthless man who does not care whom he might ruin. His lands prosper but his people speak little of their Lord's Kindness. The most complimentary thing heard said about him is that he is fair in assigning blame or guilt and uses the same standard to judge peasant as to judge his knights. Lord von Neuen has made little comment on his own reputation. Even when called to remark upon it by other nobles he simply replies that he knows his virtues and his vices, and he tries to minimize the latter.
In spite of this reputation many of von Neuen's servants and vassals show high levels of loyalty and devotion. By what means he gains this, is a matter of speculation in many quarters.

Heir to one of the oldest duchies in Almarc, Rudiger was highly educated. He was schooled in rhetoric, logic, diplomacy, heraldry, linguistics, natural sciences, and history, as well as the more martial arts of swordsmanship, horsmanship, hunting, and archery. Of magic he was taught nothing save what he could discover on his own as his father held such things to be peasant superstitions at best and unchancy dealings with untrustworthy powers at worst.
Employment
He is currently serving as his father's representative to the King's Court in the aftermath of the war with Bayr. His father has been agitating for various measures and asking Rudigar to insinuate himself with the court as he is first cousin to the Crown Prince.
Accomplishments & Achievements
He and his vassals and levees were instrumental in the conquest of several counties in the recent war against Bayr. He is an acomplished hunter, warrior, and has some reputation as a duelist.
Failures & Embarrassments
Recently one of his vassals was found using the family arms and livery to ruin a merchant in one of the newly conquered territories. Rudigar is of two minds about this. First the man was his father's vassal not his own so he is at one removed from the embarassment, but the lands were granted to one Lord Gregor Bearskin who made no effort to hide that he was base born.
Of greater import was his failed assassination attempt on Wilhelm von Almarc. He is walking a dark and dangerous line. Where it will end has yet to be seen.

Mental Trauma
While not precisely trauma, his home life was cold and largely loveless. His mother was the only source of affection in the family and she died before he came to his majority. With his father he learned quite young that affection and approval were only granted to perfection and living up to his father's mysterious standards.
