Tyrnin

The Born Defier (a.k.a. The Two Headed Terror, The Duelling Scourge)

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Simplified outline of a dragon with two-heads surrounded by a circle, with the necks reaching over the circle. Most often black, but if coloured is a blue dragon in a red circle.

Physical Description

Body Features

Tyrnin's body is covered in large, dark cobalt scales with a crimson undebelly. The main body of blue has a very light speckling of red scales.

Physical quirks

Tyrnin's body is a combination of both of his heritages, expressing as two heads and the dual ended tail. His right head is blue, on the darker side for a cobalt dragon but not outside the expected range, his left is crimson as to match his mother's red. The tails are opposite, diverging half way down.   The dual nature makes him "more" than the average dragon, he is around 50% bigger than dragons of similar age and is correspondingly sluggish in flight though has greater physical strength. He also seems to have two dracoglands1 , or a hybridised one. Tyrnin is known to be able to breath both frost and flame, but has not been seen to do both at the same time. His breath lasts longer than those his age but that could be mostly to do with his size rather than the dual heads. It's not known if they have a shared or seperate refractory period, or how much longer or shorter that period is in comparison to other dragons.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Tyrnin's birth was the event of prophesy or superstition. Dragons' born of two distinct bloodlines do occur commonly, and though weaker than their purebred kin, they are normal. But to every rule there are exceptions.   He is the offspring of a Red and Cobalt dragon. His mother, the Red named Terrir, promised the father her power and support to bolster the small horde he was amassing in the Marbled Coast. Given Tyrnin existed, he is presumed to have said yes, followed by screams as after the act his throat was filled with flames hot enough to melt stone in seconds, asking a red dragon for power is one of the fastest known forms of suicide. None the less she was with child, with Tyrnin. Nothing much more exciting is known to happen to her or the growing egg until over a year later when he was laid.   A dragon rarely requires or requests midwives or other specialists for the egg, centuries of knowledge and magical skills beyond most mortals ambition makes it pointless. Around half way through the incubation she noticed something wrong with the child growing behind the wall of calcified scale, she saw her son's body. In most species it is not unknown for twins to grow and develop together forming a singular body, and though there may be significant stigma, mysticism and medical problems, Terrir would have known about it. Hydrae in fact rely on the concept, each head is distinct, pulling from a shared body. Even without outside influence the number of heads grows not because of biological impetus but because they tear each other apart when given time, a hydra who does not develop a "symbiotic" bond with atleast one sibling dies quickly as sole head somehow fails to "feed" the main body in the egg. Tyrnin though, was not two dragons.   Terrir in all her time had been seeking out a soul and mind and each time she had prodded it, it was just one. Dragons reach out to the growing offspring, in later stages even conversing. It's why a dragon hatching can be unnerving for hominids who don't expect the new-born to be full able to converse and understand the world around it, even if they can struggle to stand or fly within the first couple days. Tyrnin was normal, smart and arrogant but that is what makes a dragon, even the humble ones. But she knew he was wrong, somehow his body was developing two heads, Terrir would not suffer that, would not suffer the control of chance, would not suffer that her son's body might defy her will. So she decided to rid herself of the egg, taking it north, back to the marbled coast. As soon as the mountain peaks were cold enough that she was filling her own lungs with the embers of flame to maintain heat, she dropped the egg. To kill them would be murder, to abandon them was a far less damaging prospect, and they'd be dead all the same.   Tyrnin should be glad for his mother's idiocy, she'd forgotten why his father had lived there and not seen just how much he had taken after him. Cobalt dragons are born to ice, same as white or silver, and like any dragon need their element during incubation. Tyrnin's body was both red and cobalt, it had needed flame and frost. Being bathed in one had made the red side develop faster, hence why the differences had taken so long to be found. When Terrir had abandoned him to the ice-coated spires she had balanced out that fact, the cobalt side absorbed the cold and fed on it, and in turn protected the red as the red had shielded the cobalt from the heat of his mother's ministrations. Whilst almost all dragons incubate with atleast one parent, if not more, so long as they are not attacked and can feed on their element, they will hatch. Less than 2 months before he would hatch, he was found.   A Waetus expedition to the north, heading towards the ice sheets to see if new technology might have been able to melt a path, came across the egg. All firm believers in the Dragon Lords, they thought the egg was divine, placed in their path as a symbol of prosperity for the principality. Their gods had given them a new goal, to return the egg to the Scaled Islands and have it raised where it be worshiped and respected properly. Zeal made the researchers crusaders, they carved home in less than a third the time it had taken to go up that far, abandoning their breakthrough in the frost. And so Tyrnin hatched facing out of a temple onto the faces of a hundred priests, a prince, and the leader of the Dragon Lords. He defied his creation by being more, he defied his mother by surviving, in his soul is written the name, The Born Defier.
