Year Rounder
When you were younger, you made your way to Camp Half-Blood, and this summer camp soon became your permanent home. Where many other campers will brave the mortal world beyond the protected borders of camp, for whatever reason, you have chosen to remain at camp all year round. Maybe your godly heritage gives you a stronger scent, and you attract too many monsters out in the mortal world. Maybe you don't have a home outside to return to.
As a year rounder, you have grown disconnected from the mortal world. Your experience with technology is little to none. Your understanding of slang and popular culture only comes from the things you've picked up from summer campers. Chiron and the older Athena campers act as homeschool tutors, which lends to a non-traditional take on formal education, but at least all your assignments are in Ancient Greek. But with so much time at camp comes an extended knowledge of everything it has to offer — and maybe even some of the secrets it hides.
Skill Proficiencies: Survival; choose one of Athletics, Acrobatics, Religion, or Nature
Tool Proficiencies: Either one artisan tool of your choice OR one musical instrument of your choice
Languages: Ancient Greek and one additional language of your choice
Equipment: A set of artisan's tools OR musical instrument (one of your choice), a dull training weapon, a trinket from your birth family, a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 5 gp
Feature: Camp Expert
When it comes to the operations, navigation, and gossip of camp, you know it intimately. You know how to navigate to all of the major locations at camp, and you have advantage on checks related to camp procedures and traditions. You are also tuned into the talk of camp; when speaking with other year-rounders at camp, they will be more willing to share secrets and gossips they know about camp with you.
Suggested Characteristics
Just like there's many different reasons someone might stay year-round at camp, there's many different characteristics for year-rounders. Your godly heritage also affects your experience at camp a lot, but below are some possible options that could fit any camper:
d8 Personality Trait
- I have different assumptions from those around me concerning conflict management. Apparently, most mortals don't draw knives on someone who steals their seat.
- I'm so used to sacrificing a little bit of my food each meal to the gods, I feel physically ill when I don't do it.
- I have no idea what people mean when they say things like "We're not in Kansas anymore," or "May the force me with you." Uh, we were never in Kansas? And the force of what?
- I express affection or contempt in ways very typical of my godly parent and siblings.
- I resent my mortal parent and/or my godly parent.
- I enjoy being the most informed camper at camp.
- My favorite place at camp is _____. When in doubt, you can probably find me there.
- I want more than anything to get a quest so I can explore the world.
d6 Ideal
- Open. I love getting to learn from summer campers about what life is like in the mortal world. (Good)
- Counselor. As the counselor (or aspiring counselor) of my cabin, it's my duty to help camp out anyway I can. (Lawful)
- Adventure. There's so many strange and magical things hidden around the camp grounds, and I will find them all! (Chaotic)
- Disillusioned. Spending so much time at camp, seeing so many other kids never return, has opened my eyes to the real natural of the gods. (Evil)
- Inquisitive. These campers may be new, but I have as much to learn from them as they have of me. (Neutral)
- Suspicious. I must be careful, for monsters can take many forms. (Any)
d6 Bond
- So long as I have this gift from my godly parent, I can face any adversity.
- This camp is my home, and these campers are my family.
- I hold no greater responsibility than my service to my camp.
- My freedom means everything to me. I will get stronger so I can leave camp and survive on my own.
- I'm fascinated by the beauty and wonder of the godly world.
- Though I had no choice, I lament having to leave my mortal loved one(s) behind. I hope to see them again one day.
d6 Flaw
- I am secretly (or not so secretly) convinced of the superiority of the godly world over the mortal world.
- I have trouble concealing my jealousy of campers who have a home to return to for the rest of the year.
- I'm bad at blending in with mortals because of the way I act and my lack of cultural and modern knowledge.
- I don't take kindly to some of the actions and motivations of the new campers because they haven't proven themselves yet.
- I consider the blind worshipers of the gods to be deluded innocents at best, or ignorant fools at worst.
- I'm terrified of the idea of leaving camp and the dangers that lie outside its borders.
