Personal history
Jaelynn Thorne, known more commonly as Jae, grew up in the bustling lower districts of the city of Alturas--- from District 7. Being half-elven, she was always frowned upon by the common folk around her, being merely half-blood rather than a pure-blooded elf. Her human father was a skilled blacksmith who crafted tools and simple weapons to provide weaponry and armour for the city, and her elven mother was a healer who tended to the wounded. Jaelynn inherited her father’s craftsmanship, her mother’s understanding of magic, and their drive to protect others.
As a child, Jae found old sketches and fragments of blueprints left behind by her elven grandfather, Elwin Laidir, a famed inventor who mysteriously vanished decades ago. His designs suggested armor capable of blending arcane power and mechanical ingenuity. Fascinated, Jaelynn began experimenting, eventually creating her very own prototypes using her father's models as a base. She was able to infuse these items with magic, becoming passionate about combining machinery and magic, creating the perfect meld of offense and defense.
Jae's talents caught the attention of the city watch, who recruited her as a city guard and an investigator specializing in magical technology. Her armor prototypes became her trademark, allowing her to survive perilous encounters and defend those who couldn’t defend themselves. She was also known for her clockwork owl, a magically-infused machine that assisted her in her investigations. Still, she remained haunted by questions about her grandfather’s disappearance and his unfinished work. She began to look into various leads, including that of Hugo Debuke, another esteemed inventor who she admired. He and her grandfather had collaborated several years prior, and she thought he might have answers. Luckily, Sergeant Raul, a friend of hers on the guard was able to get her a spot on the guard at the show as a favour to him.
When Jaelynn was assigned to guard Hugo’s reveal show, she saw it as more than just a professional duty—it was a chance to meet one of her role models and to uncover the truth about her grandfather’s disappearance. However, as the event descended into chaos and conspiracy, Jaelynn found herself questioning the ethics of invention and the dangerous potential of unchecked genius. Her investigation became a battle to protect her city while unearthing long-buried secrets about her family’s past.
