The Battle of Empty Plates
The Conflict
Prelude
As Isuld's long drought and famine wore on, Isuldians began to cross over the border into Mescar for a better chance at surviving. Mescar allowed in a vast number before beginning to turn away refugees. Enraged by the closing of Mescar, which was already overpopulated, Isuld's army deployed to attack their neighbor country.
Deployment
Upon the arrival of Isuldian soldiers, Mescar scrambled to bring together a civilian force to protect against the oncoming army threatening at the western bank of the Cours River. Without a stabilized army (Mescar was only a fledgling nation at the time), Mescar was doubtful about their triumph over the Isuldians.
Battlefield
The Battle of Empty Plates took place on the Great Moor of Mescar, not far from the Cours River. In the distance, the capital city of Mês stood high on Mês Pass and above it perched the shining Karsei-Kryzêe. Tall grasses which grew about four feet in height obscured the enemy easily and many surprise skirmishes were held.
Conditions
Light snow and ice covered the ground, the average daytime temperature was thirty five degrees Fahrenheit.
The Engagement
The Battle of Empty Plates started on the thirty-seventh of Scheedensun, 1754 and lasted until the third of Tauehnsun, 1755. The battle raged on for a full week before a treaty was reached.
Outcome
After the smoke cleared, seventeen hundred Mescrians were dead and four hundred Isuldian soldiers perished. Most Isuldian deaths were results of frostbite.
Aftermath
Mescar was forced into giving Isuld an annual payment of food and goods in order to prevent another invasion.
