The southwestern district of Spyrys. This was the third district moved to its current location.
The Ashen Quarter is rumored to be haunted by the incinerated victims buried just under the soil. This superstition lead to the district's descent into a slum, filled with people desperate for food or work.
Though the well-to-do avoid the Ashen Quarter, there are those who are drawn to its macabre history...

History

Midway through the transplant of Spyrys to its current location, the city was attacked by a vicious band of gnolls from the Dead Peaks. Before the band could be repelled, it set fire to half of the city. With its lesser infrastructure, Spyrysians were not well equipped to contain the spread - the flames continued for twelve hours before they were extinguished. Dozens of civilians were killed by the gnolls, but hundreds perished to the flames.
The destroyed area was rebuilt years later, but not before the ash from the burn had sunk into the ground. To this day, there is a thick layer of ash just below the soil, which gave the district its name.
Some say that those who died in the fires that day haunt the region, cursing its residents for building upon their graves. Others claim to see movement in shadows or hear eerie whispers.
