The Arcane Circle

Based in The Iron Tower in Midport, the Arcane Circle is a tight-lipped order of mages that spans the entirety of Pendent. Their influence touches many hard-to-reach corners of Pendent, both intellectually (arcane research and magical services) and politically (advising rulers and moderating disputes).

The Chained Isles

Though nobody knows for certain when the Arcane Circle came to be, some place its origin before the days of Fenwir and the Iletian's tradition of aasimar royalty. Most Iletian historians agree, however, that it has been an integral part of the Chained Isles for millennia.   Entrance to the Arcane Circle was by invitation only. Such invitations were sent to the brightest minds in the Chained Isles, old and young, for a grueling annual audition. The brightest of those invited emerged as members and spent the next decade studying the arcane arts. Those who fell behind were expelled with no memory of the auditions.

Wings of Change

When the Wings of Fak contacted the Chained Isles, the Arcane Circle realized how little they know about Pendent. Their mages had looked beyond their horizons to The Heartland and Place-Between-Places, but were constantly distracted by other issues closer to home. Now that they had a means to travel, they could not resist.   The first human to travel by airship with Fak Egglezib was not an emissary of the Iletian King - she was sent by the Circle. Inora the Traveler joined Fak and his company of gnomes in their journeys across Pendent.

The Iron Tower

The numerous voyages Inora undertook with the Wings helped her find other gnomish, elven, and dragonborn mages. They bonded over a similar desire to move their studies beyond the reach of their political landscapes, where they could learn without disruption. Discussions were already taking place about constructing a central port on the empty Place-Between-Places for airships to stop midway through long crossings. Such a place could give the Circle the separation they desired, and a means to rejoin the Chained Isles when necessary. Inora made the recommendation to the Circle's leadership, and materials for a new tower began arriving via airship within days.
