When a person is granted the title of Grand Inquisitor, they are marked in all official records as being deceased. A funeral is held in Goldspire's Cathedral of Altir with an empty casket, and they are considered born anew with a single purpose: protection of the realm of the Iletian Empire.
The Grand Inquisitor himself has no name, and is only referred to by their title.
