Summary of Events:
1. The Chase and Escape:
The session began with Hrothgar and Grom fleeing for their lives, following Atalas as a horde of orcs, worgs, and undead zombies pursued them. Reaching a cliff, they jumped into the river below but were knocked unconscious and carried downstream. When they awoke, they were drenched and disoriented, with nightfall approaching. Despite the dire situation, they managed to work together to dry off and avoid detection by orc raiding parties, thanks to Grom's survival skills and Hrothgar's creative spellcasting. Hrothgar also transferred a rune from a slain orc onto his own skin, making him immune to the magical storm.
2. Sheltering for the Night:
The duo found a small clearing where they set up a tent and took shelter for the night. Despite the cold and their lingering exhaustion, they managed to rest until morning. They were awakened by Atalas, who had been injured while searching for them. After a brief altercation, they decided to head for a high mountain pass, hoping to find refuge from the storm.
3. Exploration and Discovery:
On their way up the mountain, they encountered several orc and undead patrols but eventually reached a small shack that appeared to be a witch's abode. Inside, Grom found a severed elf finger that always pointed in one direction, and Hrothgar discovered a peculiar hat, which he considered the finest piece of kit he had ever found. The shack also contained a strange book bound in human skin. Hrothgar managed to unlock its knowledge, gaining the ability to cast Speak With Dead at will.
4. Encounter with Gramma Glenda:
The group was interrupted by the appearance of Gramma Glenda, a hag who initially offered them soup and conversation. However, she soon revealed her true form and intentions, smashing Hrothgar's face into a window just for fun. Glenda proposed a deal: if the Defenders helped her betray and kill Greasy Marianne and Chimmis the necromancer, she would give them more information and teleport them back home. After agreeing, Glenda snatched out Grom's eyeballs, replacing them with magical ones that allowed him to see in new and incredible ways.
5. Gaining Crucial Information:
During the conversation with Gramma Glenda, she revealed critical information about the dark forces at play. Glenda explained that she and Marianne were once respected members of the Fey Court until they were deposed and sent to this plane after Zher'gul, a powerful sorcerer, attempted to transcend mortality. She suspected that Chimmis was involved in a similar scheme, possibly working for someone seeking to collect souls into a phylactery. With both halves of the Master Soulstone now in one place, this could lead to disastrous consequences. She also mentioned the presence of General M'lartlar, a formidable foe working for the mysterious dark force and in command of Chimmis and the other dark lieutenants (of whom she suspected there were several).
6. Return to Atalas' Camp:
Glenda teleported the group back to Atalas' camp, placing the portal high in the air for one last laugh. Upon landing, they were approached by Jaher, Eldeste, and several Silver Stones members who had come to find them.
