Session VI: Into the Feywild
Following a peaceful but cold rest, the Defenders of Riverfall descended into the Ancestor Tree.
Staving off attacks from a group of temple defenders, and easily besting a complex riddle, found them within the depths of Greasy Marianne's horde. Within, they gained several notable items, including Armor of the Coward Thessamay, Chime of the Dead, a severed ogre toe, several Elf and Goblin ears, 3 vials of some diabolical brew, a strange gem with the soul of an ancient elf housed within, and of course the Great Clean Tablecloth.
After a scare from a dusty skeleton, Jaher Taxxis became cursed and would be frightened of undead for 3 whole days. The energy of the Armor of the Coward Thessamay also cursed Hadern Cleremont , bestowing upon him severe consequences of cowardice, but also providing him a new friend and companion: Thessamay, whose spirit was imbued by the necromancer Chimmis into this armor, which was once his body.
Following some confusion at a barrier, presumably the one used to keep the hag Greasy Marianne trapped, the Defenders moved into the central chamber at the heart of the Ancestor Tree. Thanks to some sneaky tactics by Eldeste and Hadern Cleremont , the Defeders gathered information that the hag was somehow trapped within the tree, unable to leave.
In a show of bravery, Jaher Taxxis confronted the hag face-to-face and struck several bargains. In exchange for information which revealed Greasy Marianne and Shalia Waesrona were in some way connected (though confimred the Elven queen had good intentions), he offered to deliver a rat's eye to Shalia, and a letter to King Orrik III in Kinbuldahr under threat of "the seas themselves."
Further bargains saw the promise of Chimmis' head to be delivered to the hag under similar pains. In return, the hag informed the team that Chimmis was a necromancer who had helped create her coven, and who had beset her and her sisters to kill Yol-Seloth as part of their agreement. Marianne revealed that she feels Chimmis is a threat, and as such would like to see him killed.
After the bargains were complete, the Defenders traded off the one final piece as promised: the stone collected from the previous room which housed the screaming soul of an ancient elf and two moments of Hrothgar's time. As the reality of their bargains began to take hold on them, the team started contemplating what all of the information meant...
