Session IV: The Road to Illa Ancalen
Having liberated the people of Riverfall, the Defenders of Riverfall turned their attention southward, to the Elven haven of Illa Ancalen at the southern end of the might Voltaire Forest. Toke Bisgaard, Hunter of Beasts, Eridim Cleremont, and the team took charge of the refugee column.
Opting to move at a steady but safe pace, the refugees slowly processed out of town, as Harros Cleremont and his small contingency of guards waved them goodbye. The Cleremonts embraced and hoped to see one another again soon. Soon on the outskirts of the Voltaire, the team scouted ahead with Toke Bisgaard, Hunter of Beasts, who mentioned reports of odd and ominous forces at work within the woods.
Toke spoke of flashes of light, impenetrable darkness, and an aura of death. Shaking off the creeping feeling of dread, the team partook in some hunting whilst on their scouting mission. Jaher Taxxis, being a quality shooter himself, humbly challenged Toke to a hunting competition to see who could slay the biggest game. Toke agreed, staking his beautiful ornate bow as the prize.
As the sun set low on the horizon, it soon became apparent that there was something afoot in the forest, however. A mighty troll appeared and, kidnapping both Toke and Hrothgar, hauled them off to another camp where 6 more men lay bound. Fortunately, Eldeste's quick thinking gave the team a leg up when they ambushed the troll and cleaved his head from his body, putting an end to his grip on the region.
Having freed the men, they introduced themselves as traders headed south. Toke handed over his Oathbow to Jaher in secret and confronted him about his ties to the Thetnoque Empire. In doing so, he revealed he was working secretly for Olam and wished only to see his people to safety. Offering an exchange of information, Jaher Taxxis learned that Osset was the primary staging area for the Olamian forces, who had been frequently travelling to the Reachfolk settlements in an attempt to buy favor.
As the journey continued, the small band of traders exposed themselves as spies sent from Grayspell. The sergeant, Master Sergeant Mathieu De Koninck, explained to Jaher that the true leader of their team, Cpt. Herwin V. Hamelsen, was both weak and incompetent. He feared for the lives of his men and so wished for Jaher's help in extracting his team out from under Hamelsen. In return, he offered Jaher Orders to Cpt. Herwin V. Hamelsen, which he supposed could be put to good use in the hand of a spy.
After excellent navigating and several odd encounters, the refugees arrived in Illa Ancalen, all healthy. Eridim Cleremont charged the team with the honor of speaking to Faeranduil Iarvalur, leader of the great settlement. He gladly welcomed the team and their refugees, though he did inform them that there was only room for about 500 of the 1500 refugees here in the small but noble settlement. Nevertheless, he pledged to help and offered advice to the team.
There was supposedly some room at the nearby Monastery of St. Ramah, and of course at Glen Eagle, home of the Reach's original inhabitants. With this, he departed, leaving the team with his wife and co-founder, the legendary and mystical Shalia Waesrona. Immediately upon greeting the Defenders of Riverfall, she gave them an overview of the city and, offering them lodging for a ten-day, left them to their own will. This was not before requesting to speak with them regarding a favor to come, however.
With this, she turned away, glancing quickly at Hrothgar who felt a burning and ringing in his mind as his eyes locked with hers.
