Session II: Assault on Xaerk's Lair

General Summary

Having been freed from the clutches of evil and arriving in Riverfall, The team found themselves bonding over the immediate issue. Due to the ongoing goblin attacks, Eridim Cleremont had been as of yet unable to evacuate the remaining 3000 citizens now under his rule despite their dwindling supplies and the early onset of winter in the high country.
The team agreed to assist Harros Cleremont in his efforts to gather information on the goblin stronghold in the Ancient Dwarven Ruins about 10 miles east of town. Leaving Riverfall under the watchful eye of the eldest Cleremont brother, the team departed under cover of the twilight hours. About 2 hours later, they would find themselves looking at the ancient stone walls of Dwarven make. Finding a small camp nearby where two goblins seemed to be dragging an unknown man out of his tent, the team quickly dispatched the attackers. They found themselves in great luck as it appeared the man was Harros Cleremont, the youngest brother whom they had been searching for.
After speaking with him about the logistics of the goblins' comings and goings, the team approached the main gate, only to be hung up by the mystical riddle etched upon the gate. It was much to their dismay when it was revealed the "etching" was nothing but a clever ploy by the goblins designed to trigger an ambush. Having dealt with the ambush in good order, the team continued forward.
Opting to investigate the old stronghold, the team dispatched 5 bugbear guards whilst the rest of the camp seemed to be on a skeleton crew. Cleverly knocking one bugbear out and questioning him, he revealed that his boss, the ogre known as Xaerk slept in the inner antechamber with his cohort at the moment. He also revealed that the goblins had been ordered to begin hoarding some bodies of their victims, which they were stockpiling inside of the old mine for some unknown entity.
After violently slaughtering the hobgoblin in a rage-fueled fit, Hadern Cleremont felt his need for vengeance slowly begin to take hold of him. The team then quietly infiltrated the antechamber and killed several goblins before a spell went awry from the sorcerer Hrothgar and woke the other sleeping creatures. Surprised as to what was occurring, the team had the drop on the evildoers and dispatched them quickly.
After raiding the room, the Note to Xaerk, a page from an academic's journal (Journal Entry 1), and the famous Dagger of the Assassination of King Maethelgar IV were found. Having found themselves now in a safe and barricaded position, the team decided to attempt a rest and, due to their cunning and clean work of the bodies the night before, managed to rest well through the night.
