Session 0: The Dark Season Begins
General Summary
After arriving at the Riverfall Mining Co. Outpost, Hadern Cleremont was exhausted. Dismounting, he found warmth and shelter amongst the tents of the mine. Soon introduced to Jaher Taxxis and Hrothgar, the merry party supped and regaled each other of stories late into the night alongside a rather mute unknown character known simply as The Old Man. Eventually, with some persuasion, the man (who was revealed to be a Wood Elf) began to speak of his journeys. He warned the trio of darkness, not of war, but of something far more sinister. He spoke as though this force scared and disturbed him, with great weight behind his words.
Soon after turning in for the night, the words of the old elf were written off as simply being the ramblings of a lunatic. That was perhaps until the bells of Riverfall began to sound in the distance. The town, seemingly out of nowhere, was ablaze! Thinking quickly, the trio mounted their steeds and, rushing as quickly as possible, arrived in Riverfall just in time to meet Hadern Cleremont 's father Alderman Bruce as he was attempting to escape the flames.
Agreeing on a course of action, the trio began to evacuate people as Bruce and his riders swept around the exterior of the town to help others in need. Though they managed to save a small family, a mother, and two children, the trio was attacked by vicious Gnoll Witherling. Though successfully fending off the monsters, it seems there was no escape as Alderman Bruce soon stumbled forward out of the flames, mauled and bloody. Crying out for help, a mighty axe fell upon him, cleaving his arm clean from his shoulder. As he cried in pain, the trio did nothing but look on as a mighty figure, some 7' tall and with a bull's breadth, stepped forward and, grabbing hold of Bruce, rended him in two. Throwing the body to the ground, and as his army now poured over the walls, he ordered the trio captured alive. For what reason was not entirely clear to them as the last thing each one saw was the bones and dripping flesh of the undead as each was overtaken by darkness.
