Ur
History:
While not the first city of Sumer, Ur was definitely the largest city of the Sumerian Civilization. Similar to Uruk, the city was protected by massive walls for many centuries and perhaps even a millennia. The Gods of Earth went by many names, and traversed to wherever the center of culture, conquer, and science was the highest. The amount of worship gained in Ur allowed for the gods to grow and become foundation for the pantheon of the Greeks. Ur was the biggest center of commerce, culture, and religion for many years, and the progress of society in this major city, set the groundwork for Assur, Cairo, and Babylon. Founded sometime in the 29th century BC, it lasted for 2'600 years maintained its status as a major culture and commerce hub. when the Sumerian civilization ended, the Babylonian kingdom restored the city to resemble what it once was. The ziggurat was modernized and built taller, and truly became a refreshing symbol of the greatness of Babylon. The Sumerians still respect King Nebuchadnezzar for attempting to revive the city, but in the end the Elamites destroyed the city shortly before destroying the kingdom of Babylon. Since being rebuilt in the Crossroads, Ur has continued on where it left off, being a major cultural and commercial city of the realm. Though it may be under the rule of Xerces, it does retain some autonomy. The city is built up on the west side of the Euphrates River, and its sisters city Susa is built upon the east side of the river. The massive bridge Anu connects the two cities, and is one of the bridges that raise up to let ships into the river. The two cities are surrounded by walls that protect them from being sacked, as well as protect each city from the self. In a state of emergency, the many walls and gates close to make it harder on enemies to make their way through the city. Notable Locations: The Great Ziggurat of Ur: The Sumerians were known for their Ziggurats, and the grandest of them all was located in Ur. Known as the Etemenniguru, or temples whos foundation creates Aura, this massive ziggurat has been rebuilt on a much grander scale. Each stone used to make this structure is lined with ivory and celestial gold, and it gives off a beautiful aura. This aura is said to help people connect with their gods, and removes most ailments from those who successfully pray to their god. This is one of places in the realm where priest come to live and understand their gods blessing, and the interior is designed to house them. with multiple room, common areas, and shrines, this Ziggurat is teeming with people of religion. The Grand Priest of Anu Lugatum is charged with the looking over this wonder of the world. The Palace Ur-Nammu: There are many famous kings of Uruk, Ur-Nammu is a famous king of Ur, he is the Satrap of Ur under the ruler of the Persians. He is responsible for the oldest living code of laws, and a brilliant conquerer. His Palace is a symbol of his greatness and it said that he will oen day join Uruk in the persuit of Sumerian glory. The Palace stands at 120ft tall and house the shrine of Sin, the Patron Diety of Ur. Its made of polished sandstone and is decroted wiith Lapis and various other stones. Its granded fountain holds a shrine to Iris, allowing him to communicate with the various rulers accross the realm. Palace of the High Priestess: This beautiful palace is home to the sumerian priestess Bel-Shalti-Nannar. A wise seer of ancient times, some say she was the originally oracles of the realm, but it has not been proven. The high Priestess is charged with all the festivals to old the gods, and identifying the gods of old with their newer names. This palace is 2 floors tall and has 25 rooms within in it, and the grounds have many peacocks roaming around. This Palace sits at the north harbor, and the high priestess has her own ship that comes and goes. The Anunnaki: The grandest tavern in all of Ur and it is dedicated to the anunnaki, the children of the An and Ki, the Sumerian gods of Earth and Sky. This beautiful tavern has rooms on the ground, but there are more expensive rooms that hover above the main room. These rooms hover around the main building, and give a general feel of wiegthlessness within them. A female titan born named Kharmion, descended from Coeus, she is honors both the primordials within this inn. The Temple of Gareus: When it was originally built on Earth before the era of the Crossroads it honored a god named Gareus. The God itself is unknown to the people of the Crossroads and Uruk. Not much is known, and most greeks believe this was a god that was born and died with the fall of Uruk. - The Aga-ush: The professional millitary of Ur and Uruk, the General of these forces is Mesh-ki-ang-Nuna, One of the earliest kings of Ur.
- The Satrapy of Darius III: In chare of the State Police and Immortals stationed within the city.
- The Immortals: A small contigent of Immortals are stationed within Ur, they opperate primairly to protect the interest of Persia.
Notable People of Ur:
Balulu: En of Shamash, and Knight of Helios, a man who is described as noble and kind man. Spends most of his time walking through Ur aiding the less fortunate.
Mesh-ki-ang-Nuna The Chalice of Ur: A great King and Omega level Soildier of Nike, his work within the Colleseum is so well known, that Nike herself asked to be his Patron. Victory reigns in Ur as long as the Chalice is there.
Enmerkar: Famed demi god son of Utu, and Patron of Innana. He defeat of the Aratta made him a legendary hero to the Sumerian people. He is an Omega level knight and patron to Mitra.
En Mesh-Ane-pada: High Preist of The Three, he was one of orginal kings of Ur, he makes sure to keep the Ziggurat fully prepared for any Hiereia to connect with their gods. He is often depicted quiet and reflective, reading about the history of Sumer after his passing brings him happiness and sadness.
The Grand Priest of Anu, Lugatum: The Keeper of the Ziggurat, and student of En Mesh-Ane-Pada, Lugatum is charged with the Protection and upkeep of the Ziggurat, and is Soildier of Ishtar.
Nergal of Akaad: Famed Historian of the the region, he keeps the records of the King of Kings Sargon. Though Sargon has refused any attempt at reaching him, he will not let him drift into nothingness. One day Akaad will arrive, and Sargon will gain his seat at the table, and until that day arrives, he will be rembered through Nergal.
Savant Apilkin: A master of Smithing, Jewelery, and Lumbering, he has taken to the new technolgies of the realm with an impressive speed. He works with Titanium, and hopes to one day develop a titanium/bronze fusion that allows the beuty of Bronze but the strenth of titanium.
Prodigy Lu-Enlila: This prodigy was born in the Crossroads, and quickly gained the attention of Prometheus. He developled the new filtration system being used in the two great rivers, this has helped with the salt being filtered out of the soil. Creating bother a product and protecting the soil from the harmful effects of Salt. He is known to travel to the capital of Persian empire to aid with the production of sustainable wells.
Savant Delondra: A master of weaving, leatherworking, and maker of the desert surival gear, she is one of the few woman of Uruk that have built a repuation in the professional heirarchies that has her on par with her male peers. The older generation of men have not quite got on board with her skills as woman.
Shops within Ur:
The Merchants Favor: A shop that sells a variety of General Goods, but will take orders for anything in the Crossroads. The Shop is ran by by a very proud sumerian name Susuda, he is known to enjoy bartering and trade more than coin.
The Primeval Pint: This illustrious Tavern is the talk of the town, home to the Primeval Pint. This pint size cup comes with a truly out of this world beer, the hops are intense and their is a hint of something that bar calls the stardew. Kind of a soft melon with crisp sour honey aftertaste. It is ran by a Nebuelan that mastered the art of Beer making. Any that is anyone will make their way to the Primeval Pint, with more than 24 different beers on taps.
The Journey of Ur:
Another tavern located with the city, this tavern is very modest, but extremley comfortable. People often come to the tavern to find their way again, they story of Sumer i written upon the walls, ceiling and floor.
Enki's Throne:
The premier Magic shop of Ur, shaped like a small Ziggurat that is made of a blue lapiz frame with a mosaic of glass. This glass has been enchanted to change colors and show images of Ur throughout history. You can fine a wide variety of magical goods and components.
The Ancient:
This forge sits towards the outskirts of town, it is made in the oldways, and only master of the forge knows how to operate it. Some of the best smelting of Titanium is done here, and it has a larger blacksmit shop in the front of it. The forge glows vibrant gold when at peak conditions.
