The Muses

The foundations of modern arts, philosophy, and science were started in Ancient Greece.   The district known as The Muses represents the potential for greatness in the mortal realm.   The beautiful library of Wisdom and Amphitheater of the Sun stand out as the pinnacle achievement of mortals and are hallowed grounds for the greatness of man.  The Muses is the district where children go to learn and adults continue their studies in their respective fields.   On nights when there is a show at the amphitheater the thunderous sound of applause can be heard from the surrounding city states.  The District itself is laid out like a campus, with each area named after 1 of the 9 muses.   The Nine:
  • Clio:  The area dedicated to the study of History and what that means to to mankind and home to the Library of Wisdom.
  • Euterpe: The Area dedicated to the study of Music and the effects it has on mankind, and home to the Amphitheater of the Sun.
  • Thalia:  The Area dedicated to the study of architecture and house the grand comedy school.
  • Melpomene:  The area dedicated to the study of literature (books) and home home to the Symposium building. 
  • Terpsichore:  The area dedicated to the effects dancing has on the mind, body, and soul.  May performers come here to learn advanced dance techniques.
  • Erato:  This area is is also dedicated to written and spoken poetry, and is home to study of power Eros.
  • Plymnia:  This area is dedicated to practice of Divine Hymn, and many priest come here to learn how to be a better priest.  
  • Ourania:  This area is dedicated to the study of Astronomy and the Canvas.  It is home to the great astronomy tower and many buildings that map out the realms.
  • Calliope:  This area is dedicated to the study of divine inspiration, justice, and serenity.   Known for its very open areas where discussion of philosophy and the divine occur.
Notable Landmarks:   The Library of Wisdom:   The main attraction of the Muses, located within Clio and ran by Sophia of the order of the Owl.   Any book ever written has the original or copy located within this building.  The building is 3 stories tall and each floor is dedicated to different written records.   1st floor is books related to the mortals realms history and information on the lives of mortals.   The second floor is dedicated to divine history and house the written records of every god located within the realm of the Crossroads.   The 3rd floor is the smallest and his all the known written information on the primordial deities of all realms.   Amphitheater of the Sun: This massive auditorium is very greek like with the stage at the center of attention, home to the son of Apollon and Calliope Orpheus.  The columns that hold up the many seating are enchanted to make hearing the performance better, and adds some ambience to each show.   From thunder and raindrops, to the smell of the sea, the Amphitheater is ever performer's dream.  Located within the Euterpe the building is a sight to behold.   The Observatory: A massive tower that competes with the Colosseum and the Acropolis in height is surrounded by many smaller buildings.   They map out the canvas of Nyx and label each star and realm.  They take this information and give a building to that section of the canvas.  This tower is ran by the Archmage and philosopher Eratosthenes.  The Observatory is one of the most important areas for study in the realm and works closely with The Moral Compass and Library of Wisdom.   The Ennea:    This is the primary school of Athens, and all students of 9 and older start out at building one.    The building increase the level of difficulty dramatically, and require a high grade to move on to the next building.   Building one is the simplest form of education, and teaches people the basics of life, and most people do not go further than building 1.  Once finished with building 1 they can take an apprenticeship with a trade or business, and some come back to work towards increasing their skill further.   The different buildings to get smaller as less people achieve the highest form learning.  See The Ennea for more information on the School.   The Moral Compass: This open campus is more like a bunch of rocks gather in a circle for people to sit and discuss philosophy and ethics.   A lot of spoken history is told here, and student working for the Library of Wisdom come here to record spoken history into books.  The faction of the Philosophers are known to visit and tell stories from ancient times, as well as the famed Gilgamesh.   The sheer amount information presented means that whoever is recording will have to be brilliant with a pen.   Gilgamesh has said that spoken histroy is best given by voice, and stated they should record his talks.   He calls it his podcast Gilgabro, but no one knows what that means.
Location: NW of The Agora   Population: ?   Housing: There's not very many houses in this district, but they are an abundance of schools dorms and apartments.   They wrap around the main campus, and are heavily guarded to protect the students.
  • The Lounge:  Is massive hotel built for parents/family members visiting students.   You must have a name of enrolled student and proof of relation or responsibility to stay in this inn.   This building is shorter than the Astronomy tower, but takes up way more space.   
Shops:
  • The aMusing Shop:  This is the shop for the school where student can pick up any of their schools supplies.
  • Halie's Magic Emporium and Various other things:   A shop ran by a female Ogygian and is a store of magical artifacts and various other magician toys.   This where kids pick up their favored toys and stuff.  This includes some drinking games for those who are old enough to enjoy the college life.
