The Creation of the Leanids Myth in Pathfinder: Fables | World Anvil

The Creation of the Leanids

In the time before there was Basilla, there was a cosmic cradle of stardust and the sparks of new life. It was a void, but one that was very much alive. It was bound by its primordial chains, unable to free the energy within itself. It fought against the stagnancy it was placed under, eventually returning to its natural state of chaos. In the burst of everything and nothing came Junori, the first leanid in existence. She was content to watch over the void that birthed her, ensuring that nothing chained it once more. Centuries of untapped potential were wrapped in its tendrils. Yet there was only silence. Junori waited, hoping that another of her kind would emerge from its depths.   No one ever did.   Years of solitude gave way to crushing loneliness. Then came sadness and sometimes, anger. With each newfound emotion, Junori could feel the void within her veins. It was the creation of her magic; something that would bring her the joy she sought after. Junori tore the void asunder, rebuilding it, and destroying it as she pleased. With her divine tail, she painted the night sky. Each star was the beginnings of a soul. She painted the sea next, admiring how it reflected the stars above. For the first time in a long time, Junori felt excitement.   With her hands, she molded the islands that would later serve as a home for her creations. The Isles of Basilla were placed within the Basc Sea, unleashing a torrent of chaotic energy onto the Material Plane. Fearing the worst, Junori attempted to harness the energy, but it was too late. From the threads of chaos came Kosenta, the Huntress. She was wild and untamebale, much like the land itself. With her, she brought storms of immense power. Despite her desire for solitude, the stars fell in a magnificent shower, giving birth to the leanids.   Among the first generation was Iathis, a soul of pure compassion that Junori was quite fond of. While the leanids struggled to understand their existence, Iathis was curious. He approached Kosenta, knowing that without her, his kind stood no chance of survival. The bitter huntress agreed to help them, but only if they worshipped her without question. Kosenta imparted her knowledge onto the leanids, teaching them how to hunt and how to farm. The leanids saved the best of their kills for the goddess, earning her blessings in times of need.   The leanids had taken her wisdom and learned to be self-sufficent. In the years to come, Kosenta would become an afterthought. She saw the leanids as ungrateful traitors, their worship of her fading as quickly as their manners. In her anger, she pulled Mount Kabir from the sea. As it rose, she commanded it to erupt, unleashing a vengeful storm upon the islands. Trees crumbled to ash as lighting set the land aflame. Fires roared for days on end, the plumes of smoke shrouding the sun. Floods ravaged their crops and those who couldn't reach higher ground. The waters around Basilla boiled, Mount Kabir becoming a weapon in the hands of Kosenta.   Survivors fled to the Painted Mountains. While the storms were relentless, the leanids found hope among the stars. Those that they had lost were watching over them. Iathis was furious and when the storms didn't cease, he took up arms. He was going to hunt the hunter and put an end to her madness. Iathis trekked through the ruined jungle for weeks. When he finally found Kosenta, he was exhausted and injured. This didn't quell his fury and as soon as he laid eyes on the huntress, he struck. For nine long nights, the two battled.   Blood was spilled, healing the land beneath their feet. Neither surrendered and Iathis' tenancity kept Kosenta from unleashing another wave of suffering. Iathis knew his chances of killing Kosenta were low, but he was determined to fight for his people no matter what. By the ninth night, his body couldn't take much more. Kosenta went in for the killing blow, but as she neared, Iathis slashed his blade across her face. Junori blessed his blade, the metal bursting with starlight upon impact. Iathis managed to blind Kosenta, but was ultimately slain.   While Kosenta fled into the flourishing jungles, Iathis collapsed on the shores of Basilla. Upon reaching the Painted World, Junori denied him access. Instead, with the flick of her tail, she gifted him godhood. Iathis was given a realm beneath the sea, keeping him close to the leanids he cared for. The leanids were gifted magic and creativity for his bravery, giving them the tools to create whatever their hearts desired. Kosenta would reemerge often, though she was weakened, and blinded eternally.
