Terre Unitaire Estos
Structure
Estos is lead by its royal family- called the Monarch. The monarch holds complete legal authority in theroy, though they are limited by individual contracts negoiated by the various noble families. The monarch has claim and ownership of all the territories, then leases these out to four smaller ranks who esentially work the same way but down a rank- these are (typically) Archduke, Duke, Baron, and Count- though ofcourse these can vary depending on the specifics of contracts.
A typical contract denotes atleast inheritance type, taxes due (usually in the form of cents, but often varied by what can be produced in a region), levies due, and conditions for title revocation. Some contracts, particularly of newer or lerger territories, also denote into how many peices a territory must be subdivided into.
The monarch, and each vassal rank under them, also maintane a Council- typically filled by powerful vassals under them, but not nessesarilly. Positions on these councils include General, Steward, and Chancellor.
History
Estos has exsisted in some form for as long as recorded history. The territory was once a collection of many small tribes, but at some point united to form Estos its early nobility made of local tribal lords. Its here that the most presigious nobles trace their families back to. This era is known as the First Monarchy, under the Renaud dynasty.
The First Monarchy would come to an end in an event known as the Dark Decade, a fifteen year period filled with civil war that ended the Renaud line and left the tribes without a strong central authority.
The Second Monarchy was born from these ashes, with the creation of the Council of Nobles. Deligating the responsibilty of the appointment of the royal family to the council. This body would also act as a semi legislative body, recomending laws to the monarch for them to veto or pass. The Second Monarchy would last through three monarchs before its fall and the rise of the Protectrate.
The Protectrate was formed on the basis of the Council of Nobles. The Council found itself inept and hampered by the need to appoint a monarch and, in the Noble Rebellion, elimated the monarch position and created the new Lord Protector- a hereditary title that denoted the leader as the sole national executive. The Protectrate would come to an end after the death of the first Lord Protector and the popular uprisings of the decades that followed.
These popular uprisings gaveway to the end of many noble lines and family, and gave birth to the Hundred Day Republic. The short lived republic abolished noble titles and redistributed all land evenly across all people of the republic. The republic came to an end in the Call of the King, a war by the nobility to bring an end Republic and reinstate noble wealth and privlages.
The King would usher in the end of the republic and return of the nobles privlages- the start of the Adrien dynasty. This would eventually shift into the modern Castillon dynasty through his son's son's daughter.
Education
Most of Estos goes without a proper education, many of the systems set in place in the passed died in the chaos of the Republic, especially in waning church influence. Amoung the nobles, however, education still comes in the form of private boarding schools. At these schools students learn what they are thought to need in life, from house managment to swordsmanship. Class enrollment is typically upto the head of their family.
Infrastructure
Estos has a long history, and with it many ancient, well maintaned roads used for the transfer of its wood- though much of it taverses along the many rivers used for navigation.
