Setican Ethnicity in Pathfinder 2e Project | World Anvil

Setican

"Seticans were born from the fire of their revolutionary spirit and forged from the steel chains that had once bound them."
Determined, yet Stubborn. Stern, yet Fair. Strong, yet Delicate. These are the common traits of the Setican people. A people who have removed their iron shackles from their wrists and freed themselves from the aristocratic decrees of distance and archaic laws. For the Seticans do not pay tax, nor blood, nor heed to these empires and shall not ever again. In this new world, a new empire rose from the ashes of war.     The Setican people, though originally from the empires and city-states of the Old World, are a completely different breed than their place of birth. When the Setican continent was originally discovered over two and a half centuries ago, the explorers of that time would not have imagined the events that would bring forth the modern day Setican Empire.   Originally, the jungly western coast was home to various empires, from the Dwarves of Aironrod to the Elves and Gnomes of Aedrian Empire , to another empire I will name later, these colonies were faced with countless and seemingly unending struggles. These colonies faced rampant jungle disease, ferocious creatures, and even the colonial governments themselves. For unlike the Old World, which had emerged around an aristocratic bearing, age old decrees and ancient laws, Setica was established by political prisoners, debtors, delinquents, and others. The unsavory underbelly of these empires, which fueled the growth of these colonies by creating and enforcing newer, stronger law codes to ensure a steady supply.   As these prisoners traveled across the ocean, offering to go on the promise of a shorter sentence and a new life, they faced the harsh reality of back-breaking, bone-snapping, and disease ridden work within the many rice, cotton, and sugar plantations along the coast or the huge dwarven mines in the Thundering Mountains. Although the idea of a shared "Setican" identity did not immediately emerge, it came gradually through the shared torture and experience of the colonists.   This was elevated during the Setican Wars, when the Aedrian Empire decided to employ conquest strategies on its neighboring empires to conquer desirable territories and resources, a move that not only angered the empires of the Old World, but also weakened Aedria's control over the new world immensely. Now, instead of small, isolated pockets of control, the Royal Aedrian Army was forced to cover large, expansive wilderness with little support and no connections between the formerly independent regions. Furthermore, with the construction of prisons such as "Stormbridge Castle" in Riabella, political prisoner and intelligent revolutionaries now had official meeting places to gather intelligence and ideas. Ironically, the very places which were supposed to end the attempts of revolution quickly became where the revolution would be born.   Despite their torturous beginning, the Seticans of the New World managed to, through patience and resilence, overcome the Old World and gain their independence.   Culture   Seticans are a resilient and strong people, with an almost stubborn deterministic attitude. They are hard to trust non-Setican people, especially those coming from the Old World, and possess a stern exterior which can often be perceived as rough or angry.   Seticans who have lived their entire lives often discuss the hardships of their lifestyle. Facing the many terrors and reatures that inhabit the surrounding jungles, and the difficulties to support or recover from the Arcanic superstorms that come yearly. Furthermore, the Seticans possess an almost naturally dark sense of gallows humor, seeing death as not just an occurrence but an inevitability.   Unknown     Seticans are not like the Empires of the Old World where hierarchies hold an almost racial element to them. Because the empire was once many colonies and many different peoples, there is a societal freedom to raise ones self up to a higer status and be given opportunities that would be rare to impossible to find in the Old World.
