Grandeur Language in Pathfinder 2e Project | World Anvil

Grandeur

Grandeur is a practice that originated in the Empire of Luz and primarily takes place in balls, operas, or private gatherings. While the name means very little to the context, Grandeur is the practice of utilizing fan signals, body language, and facial gestures to communicate in crowded areas. Primarily used by spies, (Bard in Luz), Grandeur is a silent form of communication utilized in a way that no voice is required and, because of this, can be signaled throughout the crowds of these events with no one really understanding.Grandeur differs from place to place and often is a language created by national spy rings, private operations, and even terrorist organizations. It is typically used amongst the elite and the nobility of the Old World, with the practice being considered criminal in New World and Setica. This is because of the fear that such motives could lead to the assassination of their major political individuals and could put the country at great risk. How Grandeur is done is fairly simple. Utilizing a pre-organized group of movements, such as waving of a fan, blinking twice, a chosen laugh, stance, etc. one can give orders to comrades through a crowd of people without speaking. This is one aspect of Noble society that is often rarely spoken about, either because it is so common that it is merely seen as a necessity for the existance of nobility or is simple something that cannot be fully explained without experiencing.Through this secret language, groups of individuals can coordinate in a chosen area and easily assassinate people, steal artifacts, items, information, etc. without ever meeting. Spies entering at different points or hiding in plain sight can blend in with very little suspicion. While kings of the Old World have attempted to do something about this, various organization have fought hard against this and thus have made it nearly impossible to fight while also making it a key part of noble society.
